NY chicken lover!!!!

Chickies are hatching! I got home late tonight, but hubby said 1 EE was out and the other half out. Go Luna Go! Hoping for a few more, she was sitting on 6. Started with 12 from Trav n Tab, 2 of my own. Had a few clears and a few crushed (I have determined she is a klutz), then one pullet egg made it in a couple days after initial set. It is still behind somewhat, but actually grew! Think it was from the golden blue maran pullet, crossed with who knows which roo. Hoping Luna stays set for couple more days. Another one that is doubtful is the speckled egg, found it left behind when she moved from one side of the box to the other last weekend. It had cooled for who knows how long, but figured I'd give it a chance.

I can actually picture this in my head and though probably nerve racking at the time, I'm definitely giggling a bit now. Well I'm happy it turned out okay!
I still think it is funny ...I tend to laugh at things rather than get mad
If you can get that machine do it, especially if you have a big area. Build a hoop shed
that is a good idea ..

I love raking leaves I usually get to the before any child can lol I'm a party popper.
it rakes leaves too ..I collect those also for the run in winter

He may have lost the roo challenge to your hens . does he mount them ?
Where's Stonyhill ??
I wondered that myself

I have 5 pints beets in the canner. Going to vacuum and then off to pre K. I'm over 38 wks now so I keep telling the baby she has the free and clear to come anytime. She's going to be stubborn I think. I'm ready for this to be done.

I am glad you made it to the safe zone. I have a feeling #3 is going to be late now she is probablysays you wouldn't let me out when I wanted now you can carry me around for a while longer LOL!

I've never been too concerned about the ducks as far as warmth just knowing they could, still to this day, care less about even going into their house at night. When it's dark and they see me come outside they know I'm coming to lock up shop so they finally go in. Because they now know it's either they go in on their own or I attempt to round them up myself to get them in there.

I've been noticing lately that Gru hasn't been hanging around the girls as much. Anyone else's Roos behave this way? He went from being by their side every day to being on complete opposite ends of the yard from them. I just went out there a few minutes to add more hay to the bunny cages and he was laying down by one of the cages, girls were no where in sight. I came around the back of the yard and all three of them were in the woods near the pond on the opposite side of the property. I know he's going thru a molt, not sure if that has something to do with it?? Just weird that he isn't free ranging with them anymore.

My Roos stay with the girls they are always close buy including my Silkie Roos. Is Gru hanging out there because of Bugs in the Rabbit Poo? I have a hen who likes to hang out by my rabbits and pecks at the ground underneath because their is usually some for of bug there

Well my tall grasses were getting out of control on the sides of my porch steps, finally dug them out and split them. What a pain in the neck that was! Finally got it done and split up half of the bunch and placed them around the back of my pond. Hoping next spring they come in and fill up the back "wall" of the pond.

That grass was a nice addition the pond looks really nice.

Absolutely I would agree, I did it because it was easy affordable and I could move a large coops around as I pleased. I've heard of them even used for goats.

I want to make another one next year but smaller.

I have a different tarp for the back and want to put a vent up top. Any suggestions would be helpful.
It's looking great!
Does your roo help round up the girls at night?, there is always that chance he just isn't interested from what people tell me. He's looking good resting in his shade spot!
Nice Looking Coop

I have been busy with work finally got over the stomach crud. Hubby is finally released to go back to work after surgery so my projects are back to being weekend projects. I am good with projects slowing down it has been too hectic lately.

Anyone have a good recipe for Tomato Pizza Pie I got some at Price Chopper this week that was made by Spanos and would love to get a recipe that tasted close to that. I have looked online and the few I found I can tell are not going to be it.

I have a couple of Brahmas I think I am either going to be getting rid of or processing they were a couple years old when I got them and they have never layed any eggs for me except for 2 tiny tiny tiny little eggs and I have had them for about 4 months they are not molting I just think they are done laying.

Where's Stonyhill ??

He's been working on a homesteading blog and articles. Other than that I have not a clue, Jlaw hasn't been on much either.
Hey miquwid,

My Gertie sends her best regards to your recovering Brabanter. We're both happy she's doing better. Gertie says so herself, but it just sounds like "Guk-guk-guk." (This seems to be the extent of her talent for language.)

Happy Friday everyone.

TOB

Thanks so much your girl is beautiful! Mine is doing amazing poor thing is still cooped up and wants out. She is almost healed feathers are growing back nicely we got her a spot in our small cool unfortunately she will not join the big coop. Instead of a 2" gash its now a pea size so just waiting for it to be completely healed and she can finaly get out of sick bay. I did move her to the chicken area so everyone can see each other but not actually peck one another. I think she likes that because she was in the dog's yard and they probably annoyed her but after awhile she didn't mind them but I think she rather be with chickens that a playful pit, schaunzer, and yorkie LOL. It's nice for me because she isn't right under my bedroom window waking me up.
Nice Looking Coop

Thank you I'm so proud of it because my 10 yr old son and I built it ourselves! On our budget we could not even afford to buy a small bantam coop so we build! I'm going to add more lights because when it's dark it's dark we cannot see nothing back there and I want to build an automatic chicken door as well. It might be hard to see but there are two sets of roost which they will only use the top one well it's gets tight so I put wood planks over the nest boxes and they will roost on that but the bottom roost is for poop collection it seems LOL. I can't wait to finish my silkie tractor coop so they cannot be in the make shift coop I have for them right now.

LOL one of my little tiny bantam pullets from CB actually managed to hatch two tiny little chicks from pullet bantam eggs. The size of marbles! They are so tiny and cute - will have to get pics. We are retrofitting that coop today as its not built for chicks. There's no way for them to get in and out! I've pulled mama and babies into a cat carrier- she isn't happy, but the chicks are safe. :)
