Read somewhere that the hawks are migrating now, and we need to be vigilant and protect the flocks.

On the coyote subject, I know you've all been anxious about my progress, I went to the rod and gun club yesterday, and the nicest man taught me to use my rifle!! It was really fun, since I can actually hit what I'm aiming at. And the coyotes were very loud and vocal last night. They sounded close.

On the topic of molting--My frizzles tend to molt just about bald and look awful for a time until the new feathers come in.

Sally--Sorry about your kitties.

I believe we're going to go with Nora Heath for a name. All my girls will have names ending with the 'a' sound.

Here's the wound today:

A lot less evil-looking. She had a bit of a food issue there caused by the fact that she's having some precision issues at the moment. It turns out she hadn't been drinking well because she couldn't quite figure out where to put her beak in the waterer, so I nudged the waterer up against the cage bars so the other birds could stick their heads in and drink. When she saw them doing it she used their movements to figure out what to do and she was slurping down water when I left.

Still, today she's a little more perky and even yelled at me a little while I handled her.

I haven's lost another bird and I have yet to even see a hawk so I'm really confused as to how it happened. I know they're migrating so I guess it could have been one passing through and it left right after.

Tab - Nora is a nice name - not too popular - not weird I like it.

Pyxis - chicken looks bad! ha ha but I'm sure once the wound heals and the feathers decide how they are going to lay - she will have an odd - yet not frightening look to her. If not a roo (Captain Jack) what are you going to name her? Serving Winch ? ha ha ha

My chickens love, love, love tomato's. they are enjoying my cleaning up the garden.

I learned something new today. Cats can be allergic to foods with fish in it and should not have it often. What hogwash is that? I had to have 2 older cats put to sleep today. They both had cancerous tumor s. it's a very sad day at our house. We planted them in my flower garden.

My neighbors saw a hawk swoop down in the chicken pen today. Thankfully, no one is missing.

Lord have mercy, Puffs favorite food was Sardines. God rest her soul.

I recall a story about a woman who was regretting naming her daughter , Nora Jean. Some of the most uncommon names are the nicest I think.

Sunnyside - very attractive little coop and cool pen. I love the idea of flowers climbing the branches next year. It'll look very charming and cottage-like!

Sally - I'm sorry to hear about your two cats. It's sad enough to lose one, but to have both put down at once? How hard for you. Once again, stupid cancer is to blame. It seems to be everywhere...

Thanks for the kind words about my dog, Nutty. I appreciate that. He is a terrific, sweet boy -- a great pal to my kids.

On the brighter side, my feathered charges all seem to be very content and robust...even my little "optically challenged" Gertie is perky these days. I think they are loving this cool, dry weather. I know I am.
