Do you have pics of the dog in the act or have seen it? When the sheriff was here he pretty much said I need ether or of those because no way to prove it. He wasn't dumb though he said he thinks its the neighbors dog seeing how I chased it off day after my birds got attacked. I showed him my 4 dead birds I could find and told him 4 more not found and explained the thought of dog doing it since birds was left there after being killed. But definitely lodge your complaint and lets hope for the best. I don't know if you have reported the past attacks or not but you should as soon as they happen even if you cant prove it was some ones dog but you know it looks like a dog attack. I did just so that I had a report in so if it happens again and I kill the dog or get it on a cam I will then have a history with sheriff's department and they would know it has happened in the past and i'm not making up past attacks just to get rid of the dog. Paper trails can help you in times like this.Okay, it's finally Monday and I'm calling animal control. I looked up the dates of every time the dog killed and attacked my bird. I have my photos ready. I have the phone number. And I checked the law - this guy's in serious trouble. Turns out that they can seize the dog just based on a complaint of an attack on livestock, and I have photo evidence. Plus I doubt he's registered the dog. So as soon as I think the animal control officer will be up, I'll be calling. Bye bye doggy, finally. I tried to be nice. I was way too lenient. Now I'm playing hardball and I will go to court if I have to.
When the sheriff was here he pretty much told me not to confront the owner of dog or others about attacks because they can charge me with trespassing when I go on they're property to do so. He said to call them first. I think he mainly said this because of how the guy tried to say I threatened him. This way theres no chance of the guy making up a fake report like this guy tried to do when sheriff went over there to talk to him.
just my 2 cents.
