Hello. I am in Texas. I am having the worst time trying to post anything. So I a replying here. I love my chickens. I started 3 years ago with 4-3 month old Buff Orpingtons. Miss Priss,Blondie, and the twins Omelet and Scrambled.

Welcome To the Ny York thread ..So what is the weather like in Texas ?
Here in NY ...days have been 50-60...nights around 40 ...Mostly sunny cloudy ...

I don't understand why BYC has a spoiler alert. If someone can't handle the images of dead chickens then they better not own chickens. Nothing against you JLaw. I just don't understand BYC's thinking. Dead chickens are a fact of chicken raising. Funny....I just wrote an article about that
I think it is because there are children on here ...
Not many feathers are missing on them and only wounds I can find are on back but after looking at them looks more like a claw than bite mark and only on the back. I'm wondering if my tom turkey who has been chaseing my roo some has now tried to mount the hens and killing them. Or a bird of prey but the only problem with bird of prey is the fact that none of the chickens I have found so far are eaten at all. Here are a few pics of wounds maybe tell me what you think.

Edit I got home around 630 pm and when I lifted the legs of one of barred rocks she was warm under the leg between body still. We left around 12pm.

So sorry ....you lost some of your chickens ..
We dont let ours roam / free range when we are not home for this reason ..we cant protect them .
To me it looks like 2 holes on the chicken ..It seems like a dog or fox teeth would have made more puncture wounds ..
If it was them be on the lookout ...they will be back .
Could the Tom turkey kill the chickens if he was trying to mate with them ?
I hope your missing ones come back ...Do you have a way to call them ?
I call them for treats so they will come when I call ...it also comes in handy when they are scattered ..if something has chased them .

Quote: Mine were a audience when I was processing mine ..too
It may also be they are curious also ...they think every time I am carrying something it is for them ...
What ya got for me ..? What ya Doing ..? I wouldnt give it to them though ...Gross

I dig a hole & bury my remains ..in a plastic bag ...away from the house / coop ..
near where a fox was buried ..
sometimes it gets dug up ..it did last time ...I didnt bag it ...

WOW ! you guys have been busy today !! Lots of stuff going on. Today I spent the day with my dogs at a weight pull in Lafayette. It just amazes me the amount of weight my dogs can pull. We do it for fun, but it has a very practical purpose for me too. My dogs move fire wood, they bring wood pellets to the house, haul chicken manure to the compost pile and move cement blocks for me. My young Rottweiler pulled 2,250 lbs today !

his personal best and my little Boxer pulled 1,050 for her personal best

Wow I didn't realize a dog could pull that much weight. That is so impressive!

Okay, it's finally Monday and I'm calling animal control. I looked up the dates of every time the dog killed and attacked my bird. I have my photos ready. I have the phone number. And I checked the law - this guy's in serious trouble. Turns out that they can seize the dog just based on a complaint of an attack on livestock, and I have photo evidence. Plus I doubt he's registered the dog. So as soon as I think the animal control officer will be up, I'll be calling. Bye bye doggy, finally. I tried to be nice. I was way too lenient. Now I'm playing hardball and I will go to court if I have to.

Good for you Pyxis!!! I live in fear of the neighbor dogs getting out - they have electronic collars and it's only happened once - thankfully my birds were still penned up.
