NY chicken lover!!!!

all ducks lay either overnight or 1st thing in the morning. With ducks an egg after 7am is a rare thing.

My female KC isn't laying yet either. Guess I'll be waiting for January or February eggs from her and the young female Runners

Thats what someone had mentioned - that if she were laying it would probably be really early in the morning. So if I was waiting till about 10am to let them out to the free range in the yard she shouldn't be laying someplace else. And it's only getting colder so I may be waiting as well...

I didn't either, Stony. I just searched his name and I guess he's a member on BYC from Alabama, I think, devoted to Rhode Island Reds ... ?

He was in a lot of threads. Was a man with a wealth of knowledge. He regularly wrote articles for the Poultry Press. He encouraged me to subscribe. I dont have heritage birds or breed but the articles were very good. He passed away unexpectantly yesterday morning shortly after his last post on BYC

sorry for his family's loss.

Until this summer I went on 3 or 4 threads besides this one. Since June or July just this one. I like this thread as we are all in the same general location but BYC as a whole does not interest me.

Does anyone use eprinex to deworm or for mites? I've been trying to decide what to use and I'm thinking eprinex is the best option at this point...
I've had chickens for 10 years. Never had a worm in poop. Never wormed the chicken ever.
Here is what most people do not understand. Every living thing has worms. A healthy balance of worms. Including you and me.You can worm yourself and you will poop out worms. Artificially worming chickens upsets this balance and then requires you to yearly fill your chickens with unneeded chemicals to continually deworm them.
Either google or search this site for natural deworming methods.

cayenne pepper flakes in their FF is what I use. I use it maybe once a month or so as a preventive for worms.

For mites I used neem oil on wood and dust bathed the hens in wood ash. I had mites a couple weeks ago but with using both items they are now mite free. I leave the wood ash in a litter box for them to use. I was lax over the summer leaving woos ash available to them and I believe thats why they got mmites

Thanks armorfirelady and stony!
I wasn't planning on worming them ever but stupid me decided to start browsing this site and everyone started scaring me with their talk of needing to worm at least once a year. I was originally looking for something to get rid of mites. I've had a pretty frustrating mite issue and the DE and sevin haven't seemed to be working. They have plenty of places to dust bathe but I will try adding some wood ash to their favorite dusting places and perhaps keep a litter box full in their coops as well.
