Well unfortunately, no matter what you say to some people, they're going to continue to do what they want to do. I don't know if they were looking for advice on that thread an that's how it all came about but if no one else is jumping in then really there's nothing else you can do but just hope they make the right decisions in raising those chickens. :-/

Yeah, they were looking for advice on their coop design. The person who validated it said something like, "Well, I used to keep 15 chickens in a coop that was 3' by 10' and a free ranged them and they did fine in a small footprint coop." But that's like a totally different thing. That's 2 square feet per bird and they were out all day free ranging. I dunno, I just get sad when I see these things.

Edit: Yay, they got back to me! They'll be moving to a farm soon so this coop will be temporary. I still advised them to go bigger, though.

Now with the new hoop coop - they will be let out every day except if I go somewhere over night or am gone all day. Even so - I used THREE cattle panels for the hoop coop.

But - I'm not sure they can be convinced - they already sound like they care about things by trying to get around regs other than try to change them.

This is your is our new chicken dog eating the cauliflower with them. She's two lbs so we can't leave her alone with them but she works well. I have pipe dreams that she will be a good ratter lol

So seeing as how my blue Orp chick is getting bigger (bigger than my Silkie hens) I figured now would be a good time to take her out and place her with the bigger chickens, especially since the frizzles are in there and no one seems to be bothering them. Well I placed her in the chicken yard, ran around for about 20 mins and then flew out. I managed to catch her because she ran into the old duck house, put her back in there and she flew out again! Now she's wandering around the yard alone. :-( she figured out if she runs into the woods I won't chase her further so that's what she does every time I go out there. She's so fast too I don't see me catching her again.

What breed is that that you're able to tell its a rooster so early on?

Yep, these are salmon faverolles. I knew he was a rooster even before the wattles because of his coloration. This one happened to hatch with no muffs, so Metella wanted him to go with her hatchery quality salmon faverolles hen.

Metella, for a name, maybe something french to go with Sofia? Felix is nice french name for a rooster.

I thought I might get to read but DD is in the hospital again. She may have to go early with this one. I'm watching the Queen.
