So I rarely post pics of my birds, I don't know why. I figured since I let everyone out today I would snap a few of the barnies.

I'm super ANGRY at the silkies I let them free range with the rest of the group. I asked my son did we get eggs today he said no. Then he went back and looked again he found 4 buried eggs. Im telling you those silkies taught my girls to bury eggs. Just when I thought i alleviated this problem it rears its ugly head. UGH

Funny, I'm still waiting for my lavender silkie hen to lay...they've been scratching around so much in their coop that one of the nestboxes is half filled with shavings. The other day when someone here (possibly you) mentioned buried eggs, I thought, hmmm...maybe they're burying them! LOL No eggs though.

Hahaha i feel that since our roo has turned out to be a great protector of the flock we moved the silkie coop with the big girls and now the egg issue arises. They free range together and go back to their own coops which i didnt expect.

If she is 6 months its possible it way be almost a year before they start laying but hopefully not maybe soon.

One of my EE girls has started laying her eggs outside. *sigh* I think I need to make more nesting boxes.

Edit note: post 500!
I had the hardest time breaking my D'uccles from the habit of laying outside in the run. I had to resort to leaving them locked inside the coop until Dusk, let them out for a few minutes and lock them back in. FOR A WEEK. Made my life harder, cuz it was summer and I had to keep the pop door closed until the week was over.

These hens are something laying where ever, Sometimes the young ones lay outside the nest box, Especially since 7 will only use 2 boxes and there are three more. I made special covers and one extra large one for when my orpington and jersey giant come of age.
