NY chicken lover!!!!

Omg im so sorry Lynzi, yeah my son was afraid of the same thing happening and took them in early from free ranging. The wind is a bit much right now. Well again im so so sorru for your loss.
It's just so gorgeous out despite the wind, I really wanted them get out for a while since they've been in the chicken yard for long. This is by far the weirdest freak accident that has ever happened with one of our animals.

Sorry about the loss of the hen. We have had high winds in the 50s all day with gusts up to 70 in some areas. My hens wanted nothing to do with being outside and I cant blame them lol They had to come out to eat though

Thanks to all with advice about my LG! I'm really quite sure it's the LG, or I'm just not good at using it, because I run it and my homemade bator in the same room, under the same conditions, same humidity and temperature. Only got four silkies out of 35 eggs in it. Homemade bator already has five pips on the faverolles and one out and they aren't due till tomorrow. So I'm really not sure. I wanted to make a better incubator anyway so it's not really a loss to me to give it up if I can't use it right.

I'm reading Judgement Call by JA Jance, and the main character has a ring tone on her cell of a rooster crowing. Now that would be a hard sound to miss.

Sure was when someone at church had their's go off, right after everyone being asked to turn their phone off.

Holy Auntie Em, we nearly blew away today. It was the perfect test. How did the hoop coop hold up? I'm still planning on building one just for a play area in bad weather for the birds. Curious as how it will do in heavier snow. I set the alarm last year to shovel snow off the lean to tarp.

ok, AFL, I'm finally coming to Buffalo. Can I bring you 4 or 5 roosters that look EXACTLY like George? lol Ron didn't pass his stress test and the closest place to us is the VA in Buffalo. It will give me the opportunity to see my nephews and great nephews and niece and NIAGARA FALLS! Yahoo! Both Ron and I love to see them. We used to go every year, both sides. Now without a passport, Canada doesn't want to see us.

George apparently isn't behaving himself. A couple months ago they contacted me to let me know he was going after the Dad. I told them sure I'd take him back but he'd be going to freezer camp. They've decided to keep him. Just today, I sent them several idea's, learned from here, to try to help. Wrinkles, Georges' pa, is huge, nearly 3 and not at all aggressive. Must be on his mother's side. ha!

Lynzi, I'm sorry about your hen too.

Quote: Hoop coop is still standing. Didn't move at all. The only damage was the wind spinner I had attached to the roof of the coop. Blew off all the spinners except one

I don't know about the heavy snow. It didn't get put up till March and we were pretty much down with snow by then. But I am thinking with the shape of the hoop coop it should just fall off the sides like the rain does.

And I have knelt on the top and it didn't collapse so chances are it should hold up well with the snow

Poor George he was well behaved when he was here but if course I don't think he realized he was a boy yet

I wish I could have a rooster with the hawks around. Girls are getting better at keeping an eye to the sky but they are more interested in eating.

And you best stop for a visit when you are here....you wont believe how big the tots got

So sorry Lynzi , that was a freak accident . Poor little dear ...Is it one of those Taylor crates ? maybe they should be tethered down ?
The wind gusted here also ..chickens were a little spooked because of the wind .
Our hawk checked us out today ..in the front yard ...saw us 3 humans & all the chickens in the back yard decided it wasnt worth a fly over

Hi everybody, is there anybody here who has a Silkie hen they could possibly get rid of? I have a friend who wants one for her flock and has asked me to find one for her. She is willing to pay the asking price. I know this isn't the greatest time of year for this but anybody who could help I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm actually on the fence about my dark blue chick that hatched July 6th this summer. Some days it's crest feathers look like a roo's other days it looks like a hen. Either way I'm looking to rehome it. I'll send you some pics tomorrow. You can let me know.
