NY chicken lover!!!!

Awww, she's cute. See I need something back in my flock with white in it. I loved the way the white and black/blue magpie ducks looked in my yard. I would like to add another color to my birds.
They are doing great by the way. They still haven't try to venture out. I leave the gate open when the chicks are out, but they say in the run...I think they like having it all to themself.

I don't want to chase them out. I like them to explore on their own. If you want some eggs, I have a bunch. Still getting 5-6 eggs a day from 9.

TAB - I'm so sorry about your Gram. I know how hard it is. I lost mine a few years ago and it is never easy.(We were super close) Here's a big hug!!

That's good to hear! I loved those ducks but just couldn't use anymore drakes. My poor KC female duck would have gotten slaughtered come spring time! Glad to hear they're enjoying themselves over there!

I have a white and gold EE hen. this is from before she started laying. She's a cool bird. Something like this or more white?
Yes! She is pretty! My friend thinks her chicken might be an EE, it's mostly white with some black and brown markings around her neck. She hasn't laid yet tho so she doesn't know for sure. This is hers...

That reminds me, today I noticed that Shay has shiny lobes, any idea why an EE hen would start getting shiny lobes?

A chicken lady on FB said that EE hens who are the dominant layer in the flock can get these traits, the slightly enlarged comb, the shiny lobes and the waddle nubbies. I know that Shay lays, so she can't be a roo. Thoughts?

Thanks for the well wishes.

My brother wasn't affected by her loss being he passed of colon cancer Dec 23rd. Us family were swept up with all the memories which was and is tough.

You didn't ask, but this is how I see it. Your Gram chose to leave this life and join your brother, on his birthday, in honor of his memory and to tell all of you who remain on this side that the two of them will be waiting for you when it is your time to join them.

And I agree with whoever just said that your children have a special guardian angel to watch over them from heaven now. Don't be surprised if the baby speaks like she knows your Gram as she is growing, because your Gram will be watching over her.

I would have no problem giving them a break but I barely got any eggs from them at all this year. They were off and on like no other between being broody, molting, whatever other issues they were having. Like I said, if this doesn't help then I'll call it quits with the lamp. I just want to see if it helps at all.
Give it at least 2 weeks before you declare it a failure. It can take the long for the hen's body to get it's hormones in gear.

I hate google searched for chickens, it always shows you images of birds that NOT what you're looking for. Mainly because another breed was mentioned somehow with that picture but still....

Are there any Easter Eggers that are mainly white in coloring as far as feathering goes?
I have a few white ee's some have alittle black splash in one I think. the the rooster I have has brown coming in these when taken are like a little over a month old they are a 8-10 weeks now I cant remember when I hatched them. I think they hatched like last week of aug. I just hatched 3 chicks this weekend I have to get rid of cause I don't want them. I hatched them trying to get the last egg from my frizzle before she died to hatch but had no luck.

Edit: I just went out and checked and I have another white ee that is 1 month old has one spot of black on wing so far. I'm a distance from you though. If you want I can give updated pics or if you hatch I can send you eggs to try hatching some out. Pm me if interested in any thing further I tend to scan the posts on here sometimes. I have a blue amer roo over my prod reds white leghorn and my light Sussex.

Oh as for the light in coop I had my xmass lights on a timer but now I have a heat lamp in there. I just moved month old chicks out there and wanted to make sure they wasn't going to freeze since the water has started freezing. Figure give them a week then put lower watt bulb in for a week then take it out all together. As of now I plan on doing at most 12 hours but that depends mainly on when wife wants to do head count. I want light on at 630-7 am so when I get gets on buss I can open door and see the yard around them and know they are up. I also want the light on for wifes head count which I think she does around 7pm. I know kinda selfish for us to do it around our time. I may set it to go on at night for only 30 min for her head count though not really extend the daylight just give her some light so she don't have to use a flash light which seems to always loose or die on her. I'm missing a 70 dollar flashlight that her or kids lost I think so figure this saves me money in long run lol.

When I got home lastnight I had a red in a next box so I don't know if she was laying or desided to sleep in there but wife said there was a red in there when she checked at like 7pm. I got home around 1145pm not sure if same hen or not though.

Up to 39 chickens in my big coop but only like 9 are full size others range from 1-3 months I think. I don't know what it is but I never seem to have a problem putting smaller chickens in with any of my others so far. I do have a problem with my stupid turkey hen. Since I put the turkeys in small coop and let the younger chicks run around the yard I keep the turkeys locked up. Well I had wife let them out and for her to watch them so they don't kill my chicks. They had to go right back into the small coop. The hen started pecking all the chicks wife said. So I guess I split the day for them and let the turkeys out for a few hours in morning then chickens rest of day. I cant wait to eat these stupid trukeys and get rid of my ee roos. I have a few too many chickens atm if they was full grown.
