Anyone thinking about using the a fishtank heaters, I would suggest that you may want to get the metal ones and not the glass ones. Should the water drop down to much below the heater the glass may break.

Luvmychicks - I luv the the ducky pics!! I put shavings down in the pen yesterday, and the fuss pots seemed to appreciate that over the frozen mud and snow.

So far my fermented feed and sprouted seeds breakfast/dinner for the girls seems to be going over well for everyone. I like my mason jar idea rather than a large bucket for now because I can see the bubbles and know better when to stir and break up the layers that happen from the natural respiration of the lacto process. Until I know the various smells and top layer looks better this is a great way to learn for me. Hopefully I can make the feed last longer for the winter.

Also going to be making a cookie tin water heater base today, will let you all know how it goes. It seems to be the cheapest and easiest way to start.

Well i would like some golden duckwing leghorn pullets. But for now i set some eggs in the incubator, should i get a hatch i may keep some but probably process them.

Try PMing him, he's not leaving until 21st I believe. But since he is going hunting he will have a lot of stuff packed with him so I know he questioned having room for birds.

With all this talk of water heaters I thought I may as well post what I use...I place one of these on a cinder block and then the galvanized heater on top of that. It works great!
