NY chicken lover!!!!

Congrats on the developing ...Where you going to put them if they all hatch ? It is freezing out there .
A too Smart Smart Phone ? LOL I do hate that when it corrects you & you dont want it to

I typically brood inside so no issue there.

So the holiday spirit is in full swing. I rang out a cart full of stuff and then the ten dollar off coupon the lady gives me. The coupon is decline. She starts yelling at me that she bought the fifty dollars worth of food and demands her ten dollars off. (It came to 53 dollars). I read her the exemption on the coupon and tell her that her 20 pound bag of dog food doesn't count. She gets all mad and tells me I can just keep everything ( after I had bagged it all). I just smiled and told her to have a nice day. Day before I had someone yelling at me because their script wasn't ready when they got there. I explained that they had never filled with us before and we needed their information. They asked me why they didn't get a phone call letting them know there was a problem. I looked at them and quietly said that we didn't have their information. Aparrently having to wait more than fifteen minutes while I input everything was "stupid" and I was incompetant. I jusft smiled and told them to have a nice day when I rang them out. Gotta love this time of year!

Have a nice day everyone!

Love retail LOL. I deal with customers all the time not wanting to pay for things and coupons that aren't for what a customer wants. Except my customers have cats and dogs with them yayy me!

I like to keep the odd balls for a couple of reasons. 1. they look fun running around the yard. B. they still lay eggs and serve the purpose. Kinda like the punks in the chicken yard.

To bad I couldn't get them to wear little spiked collars.

Funny I got a free health silkie with venison and then one sick on LOL That is it for silkies for me But it is cool to have a nice blue one. So that brings me to a white non beared a partridge non beared and a blue beared. And if the sick boy pulls through a male blue non bearded will need a bachlor pad so he doesn't mate with my girls we think he has bad genes!!!
I saw this on facebook today, and though it isn't about chickens, its pretty funny & moral is probably true...

A little lesson to start your day with.

SHE WALKED UP AND TIED HER OLD MULE TO THE HITCHING POST. AS SHE STOOD THERE, BRUSHING SOME OF THE DUST FROM HER FACE AND CLOTHES, A YOUNG GUNSLINGER STEPPED OUT OF THE SALOON WITH A GUN IN ONE HAND AND A BOTTLE OF WHISKEY IN THE OTHER.THE YOUNG GUNSLINGER LOOKED AT THE OLD WOMAN AND LAUGHED,

"HEY OLD WOMAN, HAVE YOU EVER DANCED?"

THE OLD WOMAN LOOKED UP AT THE GUNSLINGER AND SAID, "NO, I NEVER DID DANCE... NEVER REALLY WANTED TO."

A CROWD HAD GATHERED AS THE GUNSLINGER GRINNED AND SAID, "WELL, YOU OLD BAG, YOU'RE GONNA DANCE NOW," AND STARTED SHOOTING AT THE OLD WOMAN'S FEET.

THE OLD WOMAN PROSPECTOR -- NOT WANTING TO GET HER TOE BLOWN OFF -- STARTED HOPPING AROUND. EVERYBODY WAS LAUGHING. WHEN HIS LAST BULLET HAD BEEN FIRED, THE YOUNG GUNSLINGER, STILL LAUGHING, HOLSTERED HIS GUN AND TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK INTO THE SALOON.

THE OLD WOMAN TURNED TO HER PACK MULE, PULLED OUT A DOUBLE-BARRELED SHOTGUN, AND COCKED BOTH HAMMERS.

THE LOUD CLICKS CARRIED CLEARLY THROUGH THE DESERT AIR. THE CROWD STOPPED LAUGHING IMMEDIATELY.

THE YOUNG GUNSLINGER HEARD THE SOUNDS, TOO, AND HE TURNED AROUND VERY SLOWLY. THE SILENCE WAS ALMOST DEAFENING. THE CROWD WATCHED AS THE YOUNG GUNMAN STARED AT THE OLD WOMAN AND THE LARGE GAPING HOLES OF THOSE TWIN BARRELS. THE BARRELS OF THE SHOTGUN NEVER WAVERED IN THE OLD WOMAN'S HANDS, AS SHE QUIETLY SAID, "SON, HAVE YOU EVER KISSED A MULE'S ***?"

THE GUNSLINGER SWALLOWED HARD AND SAID, "NO M'AM... BUT... I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO."

THERE ARE A FEW LESSONS HERE FOR ALL OF US:
1 - Never be arrogant.
2 - Don't waste ammunition.
3 - Whiskey makes you think you're smarter than you are.
4 - Always, always make sure you know who has the power.
5 - Don't mess with old women; they didn't get old by being stupid...

I JUST LOVE A STORY WITH A HAPPY ENDING, DON'T YOU?

Love it great!!

Evening all. My silkie eggs went into lock down last night. I started with 14, 2 were tossed at day 8, so 12 made it to lock down. I have 1 that piped externally today. Hatch day "should" be tomorrow.
Good luck I'm pulling for you.

Well you may have seen my tag line A friend loves at all times and it is in the bible but I'm not sure they had Silkies then.

Your funny
Rancher, I read one of your posts a day or so ago and saw you didn't think your birds were getting enough water with the nipples and that got me thinking. I remembered every time the found water in other places, they drank and drank. Tonight I took the nipple bucket out and gave them back their galvanized waterer and they were drinking like crazy. I'm going to leave it like this for the winter with the heated base. I'll use the nipples in the run in the summer time.
I did the same thing after that but they barely touched the water in the bucket but if outside the run they drink from the water buckets I leave around the garden. So with in conclusive results I will do the same you guys that way they will have plenty of water and no worries on my part.

Found this on facebook. Not sure where this happened but there is a lot of snow, and that bantam seems like a snack and the camera man the main meal.

Well yesterday a lady came to my door and asked me a loaded question of a zombie lover "Can the dead walk to the earth?" Well I told her about my zombie response kits in the truck and house and she quickly ran off. I was just being honest but in hind sight I can see how dark that may seem. Well there are lots of signs up on my property so enter at your own risk LOL. I had a zombie birthday party for my son two years ago and I left much of the signs up well the neighbors think it's funny so I didn't realize how dark it may seem to people but hey I love zombies.

So the other night it was cold about 30 degrees and my wellie decided to perch on the fence instead of going into the coop, thank goodness she is nice and it was easy to put her in the coop.

So another egg on the floor, and five eggs in the silkie coop MMMMMMM I think those silkies are up to something they better not be stealing eggs, The other five where spread between two nest boxes. I still don't see how building two more will help since there 3 the aren't using but maybe it will help with my egg situation and there won't be buried eggs anymore or half of them suspiciously in the silkie coop.

Night all.

I noticed that the dels ran to the waterer, which is in the run, this morning. It is heated but I may go back to using the black rubber pans. They are easy to break the ice out of and refill. I was just wondering if the amount of water they get is one part in determining their laying.

Miquid have you trying putting gold or ping pong balls in the nesting boxes? When my new tots, started laying they layer in the DL a couple times so I put the balls in the nesting box and they started laying in the boxes.

I wonder if you put a nesting box on the floor with balls in it if it would work for the silkies to?
Just a thought

Today I got an egg from PEARL THE SILKIE!! I haven't seen a fully formed egg from her probably since July/August! Very excited about that. Also, finding that fermented feed seems to be helping with Frenchie's feather problem (or the cold, maybe both?) but looks like she may be feathering back up over the next few weeks. Poor girl has had bald shoulders since I got her from Lynzi and nothing I did ever got them to fill in completely.

Today I hard boiled an egg that looked to have gotten to day 1-2 of development. (yuck) Not sure how that happened. I think it's time I go back to writing the dates on all the eggs. Also, I may start storing them in a colder room.

Quote: 8- 9 cups of fermented feed for my 16 chickens a day ...sometimes they finish it sometimes they dont .
If you are overfeeding them they wont lay ..the fat blocks the vent I believe .
But as you werent feeding them layer ..they may have not had enough calcium .
You can increase their protein other ways ...
Add some milk or yogurt , cheese or fish or meat to their diet
I give them bread cubes as a treat & moisten it with a little yogurt & milk in it
or try the fermented feed that increases the protein

Congrats to you & Pearl .
Fermented feed does help ..with feathering . I only had one girl molt this year . she lost a bunch of feathers but was never bald ..and they grew right back .

It sounds like that egg was in the nest too long ...for it to grow it would need heat ...it was hiding some where

If you see how small the ones to the left are lined up to the ones on the right, you'll see they are much smaller and would fit him well, like the one you pictured you this would be gas powered and have real wheels on it instead of plastic.

Lynzi I don't know age or weight of the kid your looking for but if around 6-10ish your going to want a 50 cc it's the smallest they make I think. After that you would go to an 80 cc then 110 or 125cc. I maybe mixing these up with motorcycle engine sizes for the ones after 50 cc. It also depends on the kid and how well they grasp the lean when you turn. I personaly don't like 4 wheelers for kids I think a 2 wheeler is easier because you actually feel the lean and are harder to roll. I have a 1991 hondoa zr50 I have to fix for my son this year I got it when I was in like 3rd grade I think. My brother who is like 18 destroyed it in the past few years I may just buy a new one for my son who is 7 atm will be 8 next summer. My son I think would be better off with a 4 wheeler than a motorcycle though because he has no balance. It would be easier to tell him to lean in turns than to have him balance while doing anything. Sadly he cant even ride a bike atm with out training wheels and still tips it over. We don't have the best set up for him to learn and don't leave here much this summer going to work with him. Aslo there are dealerships for just off road stuff like Honda or Polaris dealer ships. There are also ones that will show afew different brands or you could check online. If you go the route of buying a new one I suggest taking the kid there and see what fits him. That way you can see how he feels on it and if it is too big or small.

Well I went to my local feedmill and was checking out what they had. They didn't have much from what I could see for making all grain FF. So I bought 100 lbs of they're 14% layer mash and 100lbs scratch. I put it in 5 gallon buckets and added water to start it out and man it didn't expand like the dumor does. But I love the smell. It smells like fresh grain and hay where as the dumor smells like well what ever it is lol. I hope this works good because the cost was almost half the price. For 200lbs I payed like 37 after tax think it was like 18ish for the layer. Where tsc layer be 28+ for 100lbs.

I have a new layer so I get like 5 eggs out of 8 now. The golden cooko maran I got from tab that survived the dog attack is laying. I just wish the silver amer hen would.

The feather fixer I bought for my girls when they were molting helped my BR a lot! She also had some bald spots where Frenchie had hers. I never did anything extra to her spots because towards mid-summer I noticed she began to molt. I wanted to see if she'd grow new feathers and sure enough she did. I need to get on the ball with this fermented feed business. Then again, I just switched to pellets so I'm not sure how well that would work.

Oh and congrats to Pearl and her new egg!
