NY chicken lover!!!!

Fermented feed question!
So I started a batch on Sunday afternoon...I forgot that I was leaving for a work trip Tuesday and just got back last night. Anyway long story short, is 5 or 6 days too long for the feed to sit? It has a bit of a sour smell and it bubbled like crazy when I stirred it up...

Yup, sounds perfect to me too!

I splurged and got a automatic door. My work hours vary from days to afternoons and when I get forced I could be here forever. So it just made sense to get it. (well that was my reasoning at least) I do have to say I like it a lot. Especially when its downpouring or snowing

HHmmmm that is an idea I was thinking about, I can easily make one so I will test it on the silkies first.
For some reason no wanted to go into the coop tonight. Went out there to lock up 15 minutes ago and they were all huddled together outside the door....so weird. And it's been wet and rainy out all day, which makes it even more weird that they weren't in there earlier. Same thing with the ducks. They've been going in to their new house since I got the new coop for the last couple of weeks and even they were a struggle tonight.

MMMMmmmm my wellie posted on a piece of fencing the other night instead of going in the coop it was cold and windy but she didn't seem to mind. LOL

This morning I collected eggs 6 mostly laid in the silkie coop then my son found four more in the silkie coop later. What are those two silkies up too? telling everyone to lay in their coop.

Where did you buy it and what brand is it ?????? I've been considering one, because I open the coop up at 6 am, before I go to work, it's still dark and critters are out a huntin'. If I had a auto door I could set it to open when it gets light outside and not worry about the girls

Well I had an ee dead in coop in corner not sure what happened there always seemed fine and all the other chicks seem fine. It almost looks like it flew into the corner and broke it's neck if it could do that. No feathers all over just head crammed in the corner. This was like 2 days ago found it in middle of day but wife let them out and fed them that day.

The ee I thought had foot problem does seems it has a broken toe by the looks of it. Since I didn't have a popsicle stick I cut a pencil in half removed the lead and shaved the side down to smooth it out some no sharp edges. Then took vet wrap and put it around the pencil then put one half on top and one on bottom of toe and vet wraped it on. I think I should have just used one side on bottom and left the top one off it didn't fit the best. I also don't like the lead on the pencil even though its wraped with vet wrap going to buy some splint material tomorrow and redo it. Poor things toe looked double jointed with how it was bending it's toe backwords.

Those with the auto pop doors how big are they? That sounds like something I need since I don't always get out there at same time depending on how late I work or stay up they could get out anywhere from 6 am to 11am.

Who are these People ? Non Chicken People ? N C People always ask me what do my chickens do in the winter ? They are Amazed when I tell them ...they go out almost every day .
If it is too snowy they get a path shoveled for them
People also get rid of chickens in the fall because they dont want to have to heat the coop ...the chickens heat it !
