NY chicken lover!!!!

Well doesn't look like anyone likes the snow except for the ducks. They stepped outside their house and laid right down to get their feet up under their wings. LOL Ended up closing the door to the coop this afternoon after seeing everyone is staying inside. Might as well keep the draft out if they are staying in. Fed the silkies some FF a little bit ago, they ate that right up! They still had food left in their bowl from yesterday so I just put a couple of table spoons worth on top of what was already in there. They seem to be liking it. Going to bring some out to the Orp coop soon. Hope everyone is staying warm!!!

So I'm down a sebright

I'm now kicking myself for letting them out today.
You would think it was the cold but nope...she's just missing. I'm assuming a hawk grabbed her since there is absolutely no sign of her anywhere.

Now I'm wondering what to do with her sister. Should I leave her in the coop she's in or since she doesn't have her sister to hang out with should I move her into the smaller coop with the silkies? Ugh....I feel terrible....

I am sorry for your loss. I would leave her in the coop she was in. The change might not go well. I had the same thing happen with my SLW girls but the remaining hen is doing okay.

Quote: Hey Tim, its almost December, what warmth are you thinking of? LOL I know your hoop houses act like greenhouses, If I was younger, I would do all hoop houses, but alas...it isn't goinng to happen. My pole barn gets so cold inn the winter, but so far, I don't think annyone has frozen yet, well except me some days.

Maybe can tempt you in the spring with some goslings? I think they are like Silkies, you never can have enough...

So far only my Porcelain Silkie eggs are fertile, she lays every day, so I will have a ton of Porcelain chicks for sale...

My Sebastapol geese are resting in Buffalo, thanks to my  friend Karen Lohr & her sister Barb....after a long drive from Ohio.

They will come here on Thanksgiving day...I can hardly wait...

Now, I have to cram into my head, how to raise geese...since I've never had them before.:celebrate

Hey that's near me :) I hope you enjoy your geese I always thought it would be cool to have them if I could:)

No snow here today just temps all day in the low 20s. Girls were out all day busily digging in the leaves. They were not to impressed when the wind picked up but they puffed up and continued on their scratching. I just had to keep breaking up their water when the ice formed. I think I am going to have to break down and plug the heated dog bowls in.

I unplugged the electric fence for winter. Tomorrow I need to get it up. It's frozen in the ground. I was really hoping to leave it in a few more weeks.

I probably shouldn't have, but I left my electric fence up all winter last year. It still worked, amazingly enough. :p I've had my heated dog bowls out for a few weeks so far.. tried to tell some lady in TSC how she really didn't have to special order the heated 'chicken waterer' when tsc had a pile of dog bowls sitting right there, but she wasn't having it. She was also buying heat lamps. :p (no heat lamps here and chickens are all fine, even the banties)..

I didn't get any snow here - probably a good thing since I have to work all week. :(

Well now there is this thing they call global warming isn't there? Though the only globe I want warmed is the one around my middle. Seriously there might be a couple more 50* days out there. I still have roses to wrap up and would rather not do that in the snow.

My hoops are quite that warm and I am concerned. I haven't covered the runs that have the nipple waterers and they're freezing some. I think the wind chill may be a factor.

Stony - Ducks, perhaps next year. KC's are on my list.

In other news there is some construction going on down the road and I'm curious to know what is going on. Does anyone think the town will tell me if I call?

Oh and last evening when we came home there was a black cat near the house. It ran off, but I don't know anyone who has one. Too I saw foot prints in the back yard that seemed small and may be a cat, but I'm worried it's a fox. It didn't really seem to stop at the back hoop though. I would think if it were interested or smelled the chickens it would have snooped around the coop and it didn't.
