NY chicken lover!!!!

I've had my heated dog bowls out for a few weeks so far.. tried to tell some lady in TSC how she really didn't have to special order the heated 'chicken waterer' when tsc had a pile of dog bowls sitting right there, but she wasn't having it. She was also buying heat lamps. :p (no heat lamps here and chickens are all fine, even the banties)..

I didn't get any snow here - probably a good thing since I have to work all week. :(

I like your thinking, featherz. I need a trip to TSC this week, and I think I know just what I'll be picking up. Dog bowls, eh? What a good idea! I've had enough making repeated trips to the girls with water to replace the frozen blocks 3 times a day. Man, has it ever been COLD! (And 8" of snow here!)

Quote: I am not featherz but they work very well. I actually use a glass bowl in the heated dog bowl for ease of dumping dirty water & cleaning the bowl. I use it for my FF as well. Also in a glass bowl.

And if you get a thermo cube and plug the heated bowl in that it shuts off at 40 degrees & doesn't turn back on till temps are below 32 degrees. I got that at Home Depot. That way its not heating the bowl when temps are above freezing

Thanks Gramma Chick! I am super excited to finally have someone laying around here! Must have been that fermented feed I gave them a taste of yesterday

For those looking for boots, I ended up ordering Sorels from Nordstrom online. They are the best boots I've ever had. Waterproof, warm, comfortable. Their a little pricey but if you're looking for a well made multi-purpose boot these are definitely well worth the money spent!

Ouch ! They are Pricey ! I think I will look at Walmart ..or a seasonal boot

Lol I gave a warning...I have never bought "real" winter boots in my life. I'm one who has a hard time buying for myself because I always put my kids first, even though they have everything they could possibly need. My husband said to stop being that way and just get myself a nice pair of boots so I did. These will definitely last me a while tho.

I bought muck boots over a year ago and still have them and use them for everything! Worth every penny best if bought off season.
I got them for $60 less online than what TSC wanted. I did try them on at TSC so I knew what size to get tho.

I really needed a boot I could basically wear year round for yard work & outside chores but not worry about them getting dirty. I am like a little kid I always find the mud spot & chicken poo no matter how carefully I walk.

Rancher, I got some buff rocks off eBay that were shipped from Florida. Hatched 3 out of a dozen. Not bad the way the postman was tossing it around like a football until my daughter yelled at him. He was in shock that there were eggs in the package and he might have killed them all.

Pretty little birds and a nice seller. They are still too young to know how they will turn out but we like them so far. Had worse luck with a BYC seller. The eggs had a great hatch rate but they were not the nice looking birds I saw in the picture. They came from Oklahoma, so did pretty well hatching 8 out of 18. I usually read the comments from other buyers to see if it is someone I want to buy from on eBay.

realistically if you get a 30% hatch rate on shipped eggs you did great. USPS people tossing them around and never mind the automated systems with up to a 6 foot drop. Add into the equation drastic temperature fluctuations and it is amazing any hatch.
I have never bought eggs off of fleabay but have sold them there. People expect incredible hatch rates and frankly it isn't going to happen on shipped eggs. But it is what people expect especially when that ridiculous FB page Fresh eggs daily claims she ALWAYS gets 100% hatches on shipped eggs. That is chicken fiction. Despise that page. Blocked it and her.
