NY chicken lover!!!!

I've bid on some BR eggs since I can't find any from Kathyinmo. We shall see. I also saw some SLW's but not really wanting to get into those.

I expect to get some CR's soon.

Who here has bought hatching eggs off e-bay? I'm bidding on some and I will let you know who I got them from and how things turned out. At least the ones I get.

I did. Turns out they were from Dundee, NY less than an hour away from me. I asked and drove up to get them. Doubt that I was any help answering your question. lol

I have a couple times. So far I've always received fertile eggs, and they've been packed pretty well with no more than one or two cracked, which was made up for with extras anyway. I haven't had any phenomenal hatch rates, but that might be less to do with the eggs and more to do with the shipping or my incubating skills.

So all the talk of fermented feed in here has inspired me to do it too. So far I'm using a five gallon bucket and I used AVC with mother in it to give it a boost health-wise. I'm hoping it doesn't have too strong a smell since I'd like to let it do its thing in my bedroom, which is the warmest room in the house this time of year.

I"ve had reasonably good luck with ebay hatching eggs. So far, they've all arrived intact and were fertile. But with the 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs, I try only to hatch eggs I can pick up from someone now if at all possible. I'd like to get some more NN eggs, however, so this year I may have to mail order.

Quote: I am not featherz but they work very well. I actually use a glass bowl in the heated dog bowl for ease of dumping dirty water & cleaning the bowl. I use it for my FF as well. Also in a glass bowl.

And if you get a thermo cube and plug the heated bowl in that it shuts off at 40 degrees & doesn't turn back on till temps are below 32 degrees. I got that at Home Depot. That way its not heating the bowl when temps are above freezing

the dog bowls have a thermostat too so they only go on when it it 30 degrees also .
My coop is a Coop / Run . So they have the run of the space . they Roost on one side .
so their food & water is in that space too .
It is not one the side where they roost . which is closed off some now so they dont have to heat the whole space .
I am up most of the night . so they have food & water in the morning before I let them outside around noon

You read my mind! :) Was just about to post the same thing - a lot of the dog bowls will turn off when it's above freezing, no need for the extra device.

I got them for $60 less online than what TSC wanted. I did try them on at TSC so I knew what size to get tho. ;)

I really needed a boot I could basically wear year round for yard work & outside chores but not worry about them getting dirty.  I am like a little kid I always find the mud spot & chicken poo no matter how carefully I walk.

I use mine for work play and eveerything in between.

realistically if you get a 30% hatch rate on shipped eggs you did great. USPS people tossing them around and never mind the automated systems with up to a 6 foot drop. Add into the equation drastic temperature fluctuations and it is amazing any hatch.

I have never bought eggs off of fleabay but have sold them there. People expect incredible hatch rates and frankly it isn't going to happen on shipped eggs. But it is what people expect especially when that ridiculous FB page Fresh eggs daily claims she ALWAYS gets 100% hatches on shipped eggs. That is chicken fiction. Despise that page. Blocked it and her.:D

My mom work at the post office one christmas just horror stories.
I'm content breeding leghorns n leghorn mixes.

Let me know how the boots hold up .... some things are worth the money - but I want to make sure someone not being paid to leave a good review confirms that they last as well are warm for the first few wearing ....

I also need a very warm boot that will last me a while.

My two BCM roos came from what Pyxis hatched from ebay eggs - they are the best looking BCM roos I have ever seen - the biggest one could be used for a thanksgiving turkey! He is HEAVY and still very good mannered with great feathering all over n especially his legs. Still, he is one of too many roos in the coop.
