NY chicken lover!!!!

Good morning everyone,
I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I got a pair of muck boots but unfortunately they were a little too small so are being exchanged. I'm very excited to finally have a good pair of boots for being outside though! It's snowing here this morning and of course the chickens are all hiding under their coops...even the stupid one who has been escaping and sleeping outside under my porch was at the coop first thing this morning and begging to be let in.

I'm sorry for starting such a debate with my rant about my experience with TSC

I guess everyone has their own way of doing things and their own belief's and thoughts on the matter. Next time I will just make sure to stand there and ask for help so I don't get crud all over my work pants. Plus I guess I can look at the bright side, I did get a workout by lifting all those bags so many times

Oh I know theres a difference between top and bottom even with forced air I only stated the difference between the two readings because you said you like seeing the temp on the window wich wont be the same. The main problem I have is it don't hold a steady temp even though this room is holing 70+. Others have said their 1588's work just fine in the 60's. Also I don't like the fact I held 99.5-99.7 for a day or so then next day it's holding at 100.4. Then on top of running hot the heat was going on when it was at or above the setting already according to the top so heat shouldn't have turned on. I've since lowered it from setpoint 100.1 to 99.9 and now it's staying 99.5-99.8. I have my thermometer prob in a hold in my turner tray. One of those real small holes next to egg holes.

How do you like your sportsman? I want a bigger bator and use this as a hatcher but don't know if I want to build one or buy a sportsman. If I don't do that i'll probably find a used still air add a fan and use that as hatcher and this as the main bator.

lol I already do that wife kills me. I think i'll just buy a still air incubator and just stagger my hatches. Do different breeds and different ee's each week. I might not be on here ever again if I bought a sportsman. Shoot I might not be on after getting a still air incubator.

Rancher - I'll let you know about the chick...today is lockdown. I'm not getting my hopes up with it. I did candle this morning before letting it be for the next three days and it was still moving around a lot. So we'll see.

They should have but the cashier was a young and grumpy looking and with a long line behind me I just don't think she was thinking about it..she's couldn't even walk around from her register to help out. I could have stood there and asked that someone help me but I was also feeling bad because there was a big line behind me and I didn't want to slow them down.

I fully agree with you, I think men are often taken advantage of by women, I had a neighbor who bought a house and would one summer date a landscaper, the next summer date a guy who did siding. It was terrible to watch...and eventually she got a reputation around town and her house was foreclosed on. It's sad to see what society has come to. I feel like a 50 year old in a 24 year old body sometimes. It's very frustrating.

Now that I think about it. If I had been in the line, it would not have been apparent that I have three bulged discs in my back. Which is why I always ask for someone to load my chicken feed into my car. I do have wait sometimes but I don't mind. Better that than have to suffer after hefting the bags myself.

BUT. I was int Target today buying lights.At the check out, the woman in front of me had a baby in her cart but no room for her purchase. So I gave her my cart and carried my heavy bags to the car. I didn't mind until I pulled my shoulder out and they had to call the paramedics. And she had an ugly baby besides.

Well okay the part about the shoulder and ugly baby is made up but it could have happened.

Be encouraged that this dialog has made me more conscious to be helpful in the future.

Wanted to share this story.....made me chuckle

And all this talk about help.......I have severe cervical injuries and tend to only ask for help lifting heavy stuff when I am in more pain than usual. More because I am stubborn and like to keep my chiro in business lol. But I do have to say that at my local feed store automatically loads my car without asking. But no one has ever offered at TSC. must be why I buy everything I can at the feed store As for men opening doors, etc........it's very , very rare for guys my age (42) or younger to do it. Tho of course I tend to beat them to the door and open it before they get there........

Well I went to TSC and bought a Little giant to hatch out of. But I will be returning it tomorrow I think. They changed the design of it and there are no liners for it yet. I don't know if I want to try and clean Styrofoam. Seems like it would be a pain in the rear to clean.

I had a little Christmas miracle. When I went out to close up the coop for the night and catch Craig (my last duck) I couldn't find him...Well guess where he was..already in the chicken coop in the crate that I put in there for him all nice and tucked in the straw for the night.

I was sooooo happy!!!

Does anyone have a duck(s) that they would like to rehome or sell?

I'm going to start to look for a friend for Craig. I think he would like it to have another duck friend. (dh hasn't said no when i brought it up).
