NY chicken lover!!!!

HAHA, my wallet incurs the same damage. My husband told me he wishes I would get into crocheting or knitting instead....fat chance!

and Thank You...you just reminded me, I will be in CT in March for Continuing Ed credits. I'll have to stop in at their store!

I do both and then you just spend money on yarn. I've got three bins from projects I've done. That's why I do granny squares.

Pharm and Rancher, I'll have to show Dh your posts. He didn't believe me when I told him how much my grandmother spent on yarn at the yarn shop.
I do kind of want to learn to crochet, I wanted to make a blanket for my new niece or nephew but everytime I pull up a tutorial on youtube I throw everything up in the air after rewinding it 20+ times. lol

Glass I think I got that corn seed on sale last autumn. My soil isn't great for corn but I'm going to try it this summer in a nice big pile of deep litter!

I just placed my seed order. Spring must be just around the corner. For those who are just starting a garden this year or have a small garden, Walmart (I can't beleive I am advocating that place) has seed packets for 20 CENTS. There are very few seeds in each packet, but I picked up some flowers (the bed is small), Basil (who can use a whole package of those anyway?) and acorn squash (I only want one hill of those cuz I grow them every year, harvest them and never eat them. LOL) Oh and yellow summer squash, cuz I forgot to order them....got 2 packets of those....I love them and want several hills. Feels like there are 6 seeds in each packet, so that would be about 3 hill from the 2 packets. That's enough for 2 people. Right?
I'm already dreaming of my garden for next year! I went online and ordered a bunch of seed catalogs And I look through them like DH looks at his car magazines :) I saw the seeds in Walmart yesterday and I got too excited. If I had some extra moneythis week I would have gone crazy, but I held my ground and got the pet food and diapers instead. I'm so excited about it this year. Last year was so dissapointing so I hope that this year will be better. I increased the size so this will be the biggest garden I have ever done. I plant a bunch of squash plants. During the summer we eat them almost every night! yum

Chickens love squash. Butternut I grew had skins so hard they couldn't get through. I bought some cheap last year, cut them open and they ate the whole thing.

I bought one of those green house things? But it was no good outside. It got to hot. I may use it inside the house again. I must remember to put something under it.

I have one of these. I start my seeds in them in our back room. I put it over the register vent so that the seeds stay warm. Our back room is pretty cold. I'm getting ready to get it out of the garage. I'm hopeing to have all of my flower supplies so that I can get them started next month. I like to grow my own flowers. I hate paying the price for the ones already grown. I'm going to plant more so that I have some extra for my MIL. Then in March I usually start some of myveggies. Once the weather srats to even out and stay a little warm I move it to the front porch and let the plants adjust to the outside before I plant them in the garden. I'm thinking about getting a few more of the mini green houses...or maybe I'll see about just getting a bigger one!
Anyone going to NEPC next weekend? I"m taking a lot of chicks to sell. Its a great poultry show and the 2014 APA annual show so there will be lots of birds to oogle at!

What is that and where it is?

Is this the one in MA at the Eastern States Exhibition? Too far of a drive for me to do in a day. If I was going to CT I definitely would have gone. My parents live only about 45 mins from there.

It makes me smile in a really good way to hear that you do it. My Step dad crocheted all the time. He was really good at it. So good that he did it professionally. He used to teach at a yarn store. One of my prized possessions was a doll that he made. It won best of show at the fair the last year that he could enter in the amateur class.

I have to get a nice glass case to put it in. It is getting dirty. I get sad. He's been gone now for 12 years on Monday.

And yes it does get costly especially if you get into using some of the more expensive yarns. I love them. I haven't done as much as I used to. I have CT and it bothers my wrist. That and I'm running out of people to give stuff too. I just made 20 hats to donate with leftover yarn that I had. My favorite thing is to make baby blankets...They are so snuggly

I wish I knew how to knit and crochet. I've ordered so many things off Etsy, hats, scarves, etc and everytime I do I say to myself, "Man these people are making a killing!" The last two hats I bought for my daughter and myself that were matching cost me close to a hundred bucks. If I could get into something like that as a hobby, something that would allow me to still stay home with my kids. I'd do it. But I don't know how to to crochet. Funny I came here and all this talk of crocheting must be the cause of these new ads popping up my screen "Free knitting classes"

Anywho...No show today for my two hens.

I don't know what happened but I haven't heard back yet from the woman who wanted them. Said she'd come by around noon but never showed.

Just an update on my 3 amigo's. Chicken Nugget is frizzling and flying, in the middle is Fredo the smooth sizzle, and on the right is Beak A Poo a silkie. This is Fredo. Isn't he/she pretty?
We can no longer bring ourselves to eat chicken as a roast, like those sold at Walmart.

Laffin'....Someone said they wanted to start their garden with heritage seeds. I looked to the right and one of the ads was for heritage seeds. I might check out the site. I like to click on ads on BYC....helps pay their bills.

I soooo want to start seeds. I have to round up my stuff and see what I need to replace from the last few years use. I'm pretty sure I need to get a thing or two. I already got the seed starter soil. I LOVE that stuff. I can actually get basil to grow in it...it's so fine the seeds sprout, unlike regular potting soil that is too heavy once watered to allow those teeny seeds to sprout.

Chickens are doing great....just not laying. What's with that? I have exactly 2 eggs in the house. I guess we won't be eating eggs for breakfast this weekend.
