That happened here across the street many times last winter. The horse had gotten out from the pasture a handful of times because the deer had either knocked a fence over or broke the electric fence. We had to lure him back there twice with apples and relatch the fence. His owner did it the three other times.

Spoke too soon, Spirit is out grazing outside the pasture :-/

I've been thinking about giving them some more green options. How do you do yours?

while I don't have a big yard I'm considering fencing off areas of my property to let it grow back while moving the chickens to other areas. I can't do a tractor but may be able to divide the area allowing entrance to two or three sections, limiting access to each for a period of time.

I realize electric fencing is movable but not easy for me as I'm old. I can't drag fencing around the yard.

Plus I'd like to take more control over what greens grow. I hope to buy seeds for different greens, just to get things going.

X3 on the rugs. I would like to know how also. I think it is rags cut into strips and sewn together then crocheted, but not sure.

I'm a big fan of the Rescue Mission as they were there in my younger years when I was down on my luck and needed a meal.

I've decided to expand my coop population and thought I would check if any of you have what I'm looking for before I buy online. I'm looking for 1-2 Dark Brahma hens, 1-2 Buff Orpington hens and a Roo. I would even get chicks if anyone has those breeds available. Pearl has seemed to want to raise another brood so if I got chicks I think she'd do great again.

Morning all. Got lots of rain yesterday. Dh set up the pump but fortunately for him there were lulls between deluges so he didnt have to fire it up. Most of the snow is gone now. The terrorists are happy about that. I came home to see my silkies looking like drowned rats. They were too funny, running out of their run to come see me. It was obvious they had been out playing in the rain. I just laughed at them and called them silly. They are always so excited to see me when I pull into the driveway after work. We put twiggy, the hen that had been downstairs, back in the terrorist coop last night after dark. Dh checked on her this morning. Some of the others were picking on her and she just submitted to them but nothing serious is going on as of yet. They are outside in their run poking around. I am hoping that she will be accepted back into the flock okay. Her leg/foot is healed up and she has put on weight so she can get away easily. I will continue to monitor what is happening the next few days. Its supposed to be warmer (relatively speaking) so she should be able to acclimate to the temps okay. With the thaw I can finally get the run door open again to get in and put water in the outside waterer. I have one inside as well on a heated base as their light comes on around 4 am to extend the light period for them.

Watched an interesting program on bees last night. Did you know that honey is free of toxins because bees take the toxins into their bodies before storing their honey? Also explained what is happening to our bee population. Between the sprays, genetic engineering of crops, natural diseases and pests and their immune systems, they are dying off. I didnt know they have specific plants they will pollinate as well. It was a good show. There was a guy on there who works with the "killer bees" and gets lots of honey from them. Their immune system is such that they dont die from mites and other problems like domestic honey bees do.

Aria---nice rugs! I tried to do that once but it didnt work so well with me. You did a beautiful job.

I contacted someone from CL about paying for and having a hive installed and maintained on my property. $350. I am just interested in having the bees and am willing to share the honey of course. This set up included bees and I would receive some of the harvest. It would make nice gifts for family and friends since DW and I don't use a lot. I just like it in my tea.

I have read that honey doesn't spoil, but cant' say for sure. I do use it in my jellies or jams on occasion too.

Now to figure out how to get that $350.

I have a tote full of jeans that are worn out, holes, ect that I saved for a project like this. If anyone can use them, I'll bring them to the picnic. Or someone teach me!

I stapled a pair to my "marking" tree and use that as a marking tool. I intend to put more around the area. Of course they are in a non visible back side of the tree, facing the woods.

I have seen them recycled in to many good things.

i own the posted hill, if they are on it, they are trespassing. guess 150 yards from occupied buildings doesn't really mean anything if you miss your shot and within a mile and 1/2.........--as far as the red tail hawk--it is illegal to shoot them(beautiful birds they are and they need to eat also), but I guess its ok to let them eat your chickens and ducks.
