NY chicken lover!!!!

I went to GF 's site and they show a Lav Wyandotte on the cover of the Practical Poultry mag. I went to TSC to get the new copy of the mag but it's not the same cover.

I have considered the Blue Wyandotte. Does anyone know how the Blue orp is related to the Lav orp?

Are the Lav and Blues of breeds related?
I think the cover of the magazine is an English lav wyandotte. If you want lave wyandottes, ask Trish, I sold her mine just last week. The need a little work, but she should get quite a few lavendars this year.

I'm not really sure what you mean by this but this is what I found from another thread:

"Lavender is a different color altogether. Blue is part of the andalusian color "family"- blue, black & splash. Those three are bred together to get more blue, black & splash. With lav- you need a lav gene from each parent to get more of that color offspring."

I realize this is mainly talking about the colors themselves and what you get when you use them in breedings. I have a splash roo, a lavender hen and a blue pullet. The blue pullet is the offspring of the Splash/Lavender. I'm assuming because my hen is lavender that maybe now my blue pullet is considered a blue split (to lavender)?? IDK. I'm just glad I got a blue hen from that one egg that hatched because I'd love to get more splash orpingtons.

Be sure to keep two or thee for back up, should anything happen.

I will in the future, but all the Basques went yesterday. Eleven cockerels out of twelve chicks will do wonders to cool your interest in a breed, I found. Actually, I did some research and found that this tendency toward a high percentage of males is showing up in some lines -- not something I would care to continue to reproduce. And so....I've got one sweet and lovely Basque hen, and some nice birds settling into the freezer.

$125 for a bird? That you can't eat, cuz it's alive? I don't think so. What is the warranty on this bird? Will you promise it will be a hen? If it isn't an hen, will you replace it with one? It it dies before it lays any eggs will you replace it free of charge? Cuz, if you don't/won't then you are NOT getting my money. I work hard for every dollar and I'm not spending it on chickens.

On a lighter note, some of my seeds came today!!! I started flowers a couple of days ago....way too soon, I know, but they are flowers, if they don't make it it's not food out of my mouth.

Anyone need tomato seeds? OMword, I have 10 packets of them and I have no idea why. I guess I wanted that breed of tomato. (Good thing they aren't chickens, right?)

$125 is nothing for that site -- a pair of Ayam Cemani goes for $4,999.00! For real!

On a more frugal note, I've had really good luck keeping tomato seed over from year to year if you don't plant all of the seeds in a packet. Until my gardening habit outgrew this method, I just stuck the packets in a large mason jar (with a packet of silica if you're feeling fancy), and stuck the closed jar in the fridge.

I'm going to be getting my seeds soon and I'm going to be starting my flowers soon too. I start them earlier each year and each time they get nicer sooner. This year I'm planting them a month eariler and hopefully by spring they will look like they do at the stores! What kind of tomatoe seeds do you have?

Is that some kind of Ostrich or Emu?

Down at the race track I'm pretty sure they had an Ostrich race at one time.

It would be so funny.

But hey, if your bird comes in, maybe it's worth $125.

Otherwise, a regular bird would have to be one that lays the golden eggs!

For us, we'll take the birds that lay eggs, make omlettes and be happy.
