Where in Caz is the store? Thinking I might look into it? Lynzi I could pick some up and meet you half way. Caz is just around the corner from me.

I can PM you the address to the store.

I'm not ready for it to be this cold again this soon! I bought another flock block for the girls since it seemed to do wonders for them these past two weeks, but a new problem has shown up; feathers missing around the head/neck area. At first it was just one bird, so I thought maybe it was mating gone bad but now three girls all have missing/damaged feathers on their necks and going up to their heads. Unsure of whats going on there.

Quote: Yes the back end is the dangerous END ..My husband had many a cow kick him on purpose .
He was raised on a farm . His Dad told him dont ever be a farmer .
.He had to struggle to make it ...he had a small dairy farm .they sold land to survive .
Most all the land around us now belongs to someone else ...not us . our road is named after us ..
My sister in law has what is left of the farm ..she doesnt farm it ..another farmer does so the land is still being used anyway .
My husband knows things about chickens he didnt know he knew till we got some ourselves

I love the mini cows I was doing some research on them the other week. DH always said that I could have a farm...a Mini Farm with all mini animals...Mini chickens, mini horses, mini goats, mini pigs, and mini cows. They are so cute, but very expensive!

Look Lynzi they even have mini Scottish highlanders! ( I found the picture on the internet)

I'm assuming tho, that when he delivers he's delivering large quantities? I only buy 2 bags at a time, I have a very small flock. Wonder what the minimum is he'd deliver.

It's in the little mall on Rt 20 east CAz where the McDonalds is. It's behind tops. There is a building that a veterinary office is in his store is on the side of the vets office.

The up side of them costing so much that the resale value of the offspring is high. Not sure what you would do with a mini-horse, but the rest of them would be wonderful. How much is this mini-farm going to cost? And mini farm animals is all the rage....tell hubby you have to strike while the iron is hot.

There are miniature versions of almost all animals. Try goat's milk from a goat farmer and see if you can wrap your taste buds around it. If you can, then that might solve the cow problem. Remember cows have to be bred to have milk....which means you now have one of two things, either another animal to take care of, or one you have to sell/butcher. (A lot of male calves become veal) Vet bills are smaller for goats and even goats come in miniature versions.

And goats have droppings that look like berries, not huge plops of poo. And if you get the right breed of goat, you will have no problem selling the offspring....goats are IN right now.

If goat's milk doesn't turn you on there are minature cows. Seriously. About half the size of regular cows and twice the cost to purchase. (I want one soooooo bad. Ray says "and who is going to milk it, cuz I am too tall to get down that far. LOL ) FYI: http://www.bigpictureagriculture.com/2011/10/ten-miniature-cattle-breeds-for-your.html And cows don't bite, but they will step on your foot....they make it look like an accident, but I am sure they do it on purpose. First thing I learned about cows was to stay away from the back end.

And if you are going to bake, then you definately want ducks. I understand that duck eggs are the cat's meow for cake making. Ask Stony what breed of ducks lay eggs for the longest part of the year. (Some are seasonal layers, some aren't)
Oh ty for the great info!

I do want ducks! Have got to try those eggs in recipes! And the goats sound so nice! Gosh yes, I forgot about vet bills. What does the vet do for a goat? I saw a you tube video of a gal in CA and she had a goat with bloat and was sticking a tube down it's throat. Wow, she was something else. Goats would be for the more "advanced farmer". The mini cows are cute! I never tasted goat milk, but am willing to try. Maybe Stony will have duck hatching eggs for when we are able to have them? Would be nice. Could a broody hen hatch the duck eggs?
We put a mirror in the tub with the chicks. Fredo, the smooth sizzle cannot stop looking at it's reflection. So vain. They're 3 1/2 weeks and let us pet them. What nice pets chickens make!

If our barn was still up we'd be on our way by now, but it collapsed a few years and we have been working on the house instead of trying to put up a new barn...

As for mini horses..Well I have always wanted to have 8 mini horses and train them to pull a carriage like a draft horse hitch..only mini's...How cool would that be in a parade to see a 8 horse mini hitch! I alss have a crazy dream to get a white cow and train her to pull a cart so that I can take her in parades too and color her rainbow colors...Wouldn't that be cool to see a rainbow cow pulling a cart in a parade!

I know now you all think that I'm nuts...

You forgot the mini-donkey. He's/She's toooo cute.

Was just reading a sale site for teacup pigs. They STERILIZE them before sale...male and female. So be careful when you go to get stock that you can breed them to recover the initial investment.

And yes, 8 mini-horses pulling a stage coach or cart would be very cool....but where are you going to get the rigging for 8? I think you should teach the mini-pig to ride the back of the mini-horse. LOL

You can learn to do anything a vet can do for your goats, if you wish to do so. However the most common reason a vet is needed for any livestock is vacinations. And birthin' those babies, if something isn't right. And hoof care....but that you can learn to do yourself....but a vet until you do learn.

My ducks were hatched by a chicken. But you need a larger chicken to hatch ducks are their eggs are half again as big as chicken eggs. Your silkies are not gonna be able to hatch more than one or two at a time. IF these muscovies I have are as polific as the info I am reading, then I will have lots of little ducklings to GIVE YOU. And probably sooner instead of later.

We have Nigerian Dwarf goats, third year for us and yes you can learn to do pretty everything they need done. I even have learned to draw blood for the year test we need and pregnancy test! I have a great vet(friend) and a farmer `friend, but books have so much information in them! We hope this year we will have some for sale. They are the kids show goats and have done well at local shows. I also can say duck eggs are the best for cooking!
