NY chicken lover!!!!

It was cold out today. I thought that it would be warmer. I'm glad that I got out yesterday to make sure that I fluff up all the bedding. Today I went out for the usual checks but stayed curled up on the couch with a blanket the rest of the day with the kids reading. I just couldn't get warm. I kept putting layers on. I don't get it. The house was the same temp as always but I couldn't get warm..I just have to keep telling my self that there is only 47 days till spring!

Gave the kids a head of cabbage yesterday...Not much left by this afternoon..

There's that little teeny tiny black and white one that I love and can never remember the name of! LOL

Well today I got tons of work done and I didn't really even plan to! First I started out by changing the pool brooder and the EE brooder in my workshop. Then I decided that my workshop was really getting messy thanks to the chicks kicking bedding all over, so I better sweep. THAT turned into pulling everything up off the floor to get a good sweeping in, picking up all the water bottles I had in there from when I was working on my coop, picking up the random old boxes and plastic packaging left over now that all the screws and nails were used, rearranging the wood, etc etc. Now all I have to do is organize the shelves and counters and I'll be all set! I may or may not do that tomorrow. I also put out the ducks' swimming tub since it was such a nice day and they promptly went into a mating frenzy

Also, would anyone mind taking a guess as to the age of these chicks? The woman I bought them from told me they were a week old on January first, but I don't buy it. She was overrun and I flat out told her that I needed them to keep my solo NYD hatchling company so I think she lied about their age. Please excuse the messy brooder, I took the picture BEFORE the weekly clean-out. They're getting big enough now I think next week they'll move into the pool brooder with the four older chicks and the 'duckling.'

Pyxis - they look fully feathered to me so I would say at least 5-6 weeks old if not older. My EE chicks are still kinda small but fully feathered. They hatched December 8th and this is how big they are now...

Stony that is so awesome you definitely ROCK and your band sounds super awesome!!!!

Jlaw good luck with the house. I wish I could offer some advice but I know nothing of which you speak of. But I have soldered before and yes it does have to be super clean. I took a class in school on welding and blacksmithing and soldering it so much fun and a great experience.

Lynzi omg I love chicken TV Unfortuntely with my schedule I don't get to see them do much I let them out and go to work then come home and lock em up. Even on my days off I'm usually doing some side jobs usually for trade not money. Now with my photography business starting and a second dog and cat grooming business starting I won't have much time to see them active during the day. Oh and I totally shared the cartoon everywhere LOL that is so true with my girls. There should be an app with a shaky hand thing

Rancher mmmmm I was thinking about making a hybrid rosecomb but then when looking at my chickens I have a leghorn roo and a leghorn and other large comb hybrids and only my roo got frostbite it's so weird. But your right my next roo is going to be a rose comb or pea comb.

Luv yeah my girls were out and about but again I'm never home anymore to see them my son is he takes videos for me every now and again.

Thanks. Yeah, they've been fully feathered for at least two weeks now. I know that woman lied to me, but technically she gave me six chicks free so I'll let it go. She must not have thought I was a chicken person and I wouldn't be able to tell. She also tried to tell me that she had determined all their genders at day one by wing sexing them. I've no doubt she tried, but if they weren't bred for it, no dice.
