Remember to lock up the birds BEFORE it's dark so you don't get spooked by the pack of coyotes running thru your woods, chasing deer or whatever they were chasing, so bad that you fall sliding on the ice from all the snow the ducks have packed down in your yard!
Evening all. I dont get why people complain about the dangerous road conditions to me when they come to pick up their scripts that have been sitting there for almost 2 weeks. Really? You pick today as being the all important day to come out during a snow storm to pick up your meds and then complain to me how dangerous it is outside. I drove to work in it. I will be driving home in it. I risked my life just so you could tell me all that while picking up your blood pressure pills that you called in two weeks ago. Thank you. Sorry...had to get that off my chest.
Jlaw--interesting egg! I have never seen that before. Oh...and get rid of the alcohol. If its not there, you arent going to drink it. No excuses now.
Pyxis--get better soon. Its no fun having that. A fellow Trekie huh? Which series/movie? I have seen them all. Started with the original series.
Lynzi==hope you didnt get hurt with your fall.
Got four eggs today! Maybe things are looking up! Later!
JLAW: Holy Big Egg Batman. (toss even the empties - they are a reminder)
Pyxis: Awwww get better!!
Lynzi777: ha ha you were too busy typing and forgot the cheeps! I try to keep things on schedule when I have guest - but I HATE it when they say they want to help with chores and then sleep in ... so I feel I am just hanging around. Then, in the afternoons when I let the flock free range - they are all energetic and talky - and I listen for squawks ... I can't hear over conversations ... so I feel I am leaving the flock unprotected ... as if something attacked I would be right out there and at the most only loose one bird ....
I think I am a flexible person - but when it comes to farm chores ... I start to get itchy when people and things and obligations cut into my set routine.
I want to be a good host ... but I find I either am not or I am letting my farm down. And I do like visitors here.
I had renters take over - vetted them, spent hours with them ... they knew we moved out of state and never paid us again. I contacted that mortgage company and ask for the late amount to be tacked on the end of the loan, I could get new renters and start again, I was only 2 months behind and had them out of the house ... sure, they said - but we will be charging $325 in late fees forever until you catch up the late payments .... as it will always show as late. I told them to hump themselves. A guy has been living in that house for SEVEN years - rent free (not one of the bad renters - a homeless divorced musician) .... I left it - he squatted and there we go. I couldn't pay two mortgages. It is still in the"early" stages of foreclosure. I tried to solve it, I could have paid ONE late fee, but not every single month for 30 years. I offered to sell it, I offered to talk to reps - all I got was that one option. I wasn't going to kill myself over it. I wasn't the one being greedy and I was going to take the hit for deadbeat renters, but not over and over.
and I didn't want to get all nitpicky on here - because Rancher, I said you were RIGHT - but I DID also say that this is only an option for certain circumstances. I also said how negative it can be on society ... So I covered all that .... I respect this is not the best nor even a good choice for MANY many MANY situations. Yet, it is an option.
I have to chime in here because Cass when you first posted your recommendation to JLAW, I agreed...
JLAW if you are going to walk away from that house then stop paying on it now and pocket/save any money you possibly can!!
I don't think I ever brought this up on here but coming from someone who went thru somewhat difficult times when it came to us having to move and relocate this is what happened to us:
We grew up in CT, bought our first house young I was only 20 and my husband 21. My husband got a job offer that we could not refuse. If we didn't take it we would have continued to drown in debt with the amount of fixing we were doing on that house that we bought that was built in 1912. We put the house on the market in March of '08. The worst possible time to sell a house. The market was just awful. I was living there myself with one child while my husband worked in Albany and lived out of a hotel. He drove home on weekends or I drove up there to see him spending all sorts of money in gas, trying to pay bills AND a mortgage back in CT while he was in NY. I finally decided it was time to leave and get a place in NY. My house was on the market from March of '08 to Sept/Oct of '08. My contract with my realtor was up. I had gotten 3, yes THREE showings in that entire time period. 1 of which was a no show and 2 gave no offers at all! I stopped paying the mortgage in April of '08 because I KNEW we were gonna struggle to find a place once it came time to moving to NY. We had to find a rent - which by the way is not because of the house ordeal. We chose to rent because we did not know where this job was going take us. We were not going to buy a house even if we HAD sold ours and to turn around and have to move a year or two later again. Anyway, we had to put double security down which was fine, with all the months I hadn't paid the mortgage, we had the money to do so. We move into a nice apartment complex in Latham, everything is dandy besides the calls coming from the mortgage company which again, who cares. I ignored them. And actually we didn't even have a house phone the 1st year we lived there. 2.5 years later my husband gets a promotion and we have to move to Syracuse. Here we are, STILL renting and STILL for the same reason - We don't know where this venture is going to take us. We got all of our $3500 deposit back from our old apartment, only had to place half of that down on this house and here we are. Oh the house? Guess what? It was short saled! I was contacted by a realtor in 2012 that wanted to short sale it. I signed some papers, we even got a "relocation rebate" of $3000. My house stood empty for over 5 years. They never got a dime from me. Yea my credit isn't perfect but it wasn't before I left that house so who cares. For the first time in YEARS we are debt free, Have no credit debt, Don't even have a car payments because I just paid those off! I have one credit card that was actually just increased to a couple grand that we hold onto for emergency situations only. I have a couple of store cards that I use but come home and pay them off right away to keep them from gaining interest. Moral to my story? Walking away from that house was the GREATEST decision we ever made! We are in better shape now financially than we ever were living in that house.
JLAW ~ Whatever your plan is, I hope you get things worked out. But to be honest, I hate to see you drown in that house by patching things up here and there just to be in more debt in the future. If you truly think that house is better off getting demolished and being built from the ground up, then maybe you guys would be better off looking into a rental until you can get back on your feet financially and buy something later on down the road. And in the meantime you could save money for a decent down payment on that future home. Just a suggestion because I don't know what your thought process is.
Cass - You are absolutely right - everyone's situations are different and walking away was the best thing we ever did!
You two seem to misunderstand what I'm saying or I'm misunderstanding what you mean by walk away.
I recently went through this with a friend who owned a rental. I hooked them up with a Realtor who worked with them to try to do a "short sale" but the bank said no so they let it go to fore closure.
Another friend who went through a divorce couldn't maintain the house and she was able to do a "short sale." She had four kids to deal with too. It's was real sad.
However and this is where a lawyer comes in. Any amount owed after the sale, be it $1 or $1000 can be required by the bank and they can take up to 20 yrs to do so. UNLESS the bank gives you paperwork to say that anything over the sale, you will not be liable for it. Some folks who lost their houses in this economy are finding out the hard way. What's more they're finding that any amount waived by the bank can be considered income and taxed..
I agree everyone's situation is different. We didn't take the Realtor friends advice and stop paying the mortgage. Circumstances changed and now we're here and you have to put up with me.
All I was saying is know what you might be in for. You might have options not thought of. Ignorance may be bliss but it won't stand up in court.
Well, I'm home sick today with a stomach bug so I'm watching Star Trek and checking my incubator. Tonight is first candle so we'll see what I've got going on in there! I also decided to integrate the five biggest EE chicks with the chicks in the pool brooder. I use the term pool brooder 'chicks' loosely because one of them is a California white that I brought in when she wasn't doing so well and I believe she's almost five months old. One other 'chick' is a duck that's four months old. So yeah, I was worried about those two harassing the chicks, which they did a little, but nothing serious. If it goes well overnight the other six EEs will join them tomorrow. They have way outgrown the brooder they're currently in.

Rancher - you didn't throw me a kiss - but this one's for you .....
It took Stella a while to become as big as she is. I remember the end of the first year I got her I thought she was pretty much full grown and it wasn't until the following year that I noticed she had really filled out over the winter. That's why looking at the size of my blue girl already, I can tell she's going to be bigger than Stella. she's only 25wks and she's just about the size of Stella now.

I hope you feel better! I need to set some eggs to myself. I put my babies out with the adults and my roo is doing a great job at keeping the piece. The main rooster of the babies is much braver and ventures out much more than the others. We left them a small crate that only they can fit in so if need be they can hide in there. I love Star Trek by the way!

Um yeah I hear ya, they have to get their dogs nails cut or cat groomed during a blizzard and of course complain about the weather. LOVE it!!!!
With all this talk about homes my toilet died and started leaking everywhere, so I went out with my gift cards and bought a Kohler not the cheapest one but a decently priced one. The guy installs it tomorrow. This means my bathroom remodel starts now UGH gotta order new flooring. and pick paint colors.

Well now it is nearing Valentines day so I accept just don't tell DW. Two funny stories along that vein.
My son in law is from England as are his parents. They do not send Valentines to just anyone. Only their secret lovers. It just so happened that I sent one to him and his parents. (yes I know it's the wife's duty some would say but not here. DW is to busy so the duty falls to me). He asked my daughter who he was dating at the time whether or not he should be offended. When his parents came for the engagement party and we finally met we all had a good laugh.
Now my GD is three and just getting to know things and she explained Valentines day as, You tell some one you love them and They give you candy. So she comes up to her gramma and tells her "I love you" now you have to give me candy.
I've been putting off hatching chicks because I might take a trip south come spring. While I don't need any chicks, I do like to hatch. My son and his are in Florida and there was talk they might have to move back to AL. If I did go that way, I have a friend who shows Silkies. The thought is I might bring back some eggs like before. We shall see.
So Jlaw, if anything happens and you need to start over, keep me in mind and I will supply you with chicks or chickens when or if the time comes.
I hadn't intended to be on here again but I got "Oz the great and powerful" from the library and it didn't hold my interest. They lost me with the ceramic doll thing.

I dont have a schedule really ...more like a routine .
No matter what I am doing I am listening to chicken sounds ..if someone visits it distracts me for them .
Today I happened to go out ...One of the roos made a RRRrrrr. I looked around what do they see I dont ?
Down by the river about 8-10 birds were circling ..I thought they were vultures at first ..
Then They decided to circle above our house ..so I got binoculars out ..they were bald eagles ...
Then of course I started yelling "get out of here ! then the 15 chicken alarm went off ( not TT shes still setting pretty )
My throat is sore ! but they did leave ..
