NY chicken lover!!!!

My Rouens lay light green eggs, and tons of them. The KCs lay a lovely pinkish-cream egg, and even more of them than the Rouens lay. I have a wealth of duck eggs.

Two of my turkey hens think I'm the hottest tom on the block. They both squat for me, so of course I pat their bums and put my other hand on their backs, because it's funny. Turkeys really get into it - they aren't at all like chickens, who sort of sit there in a trance. They chirp, sway their heads, pant, half-close their eyes - it's hilarious! Meanwhile, the boys are strutting and puffing and booming at me, thoroughly annoyed.

my turkeys use to follow my husband around the yard, like little feathered dinos

Forgot to mention I got my pellet stove in and finished installing it yesterday. Man this thing cranks the heat but I don't have it in the best location to heat the whole downstairs. The layout of my house is "U" shaped with my kitchen off the bottom of corner of the U. My living room is in one tip and my sons room in the other well the stove is in the living room roasting 85ish in here on low. By kitchen it's only 70 and my sons room is cooler. This summer we will move it to the bottom of the U part of house and have angled to go all areas just didn't want to order more pipe to do it this year with this cold snap we have now.

Heres a picture of the beast. Not pretty i think it's more of a basement/workspace type of one but it works good and thats all i care about. Used about 2 bags so far i think. cheaper than propane so far.

maybe if you set up a couple little fans to circulate it around the house more

yeah I have a box fan hanging from double door way in living room plowing out and then another box fan by other door way on ground blowing back into the room. I will be a lot better if it was in next room so it could blow into living room and the rooms off next room but that's a project for this summer.

Well if they won't tell you where they're located it a good bet they're not on the up and up.   I once told a guy straight out when he wanted to meet at night in the parking garage of Shoppingtown mall. No.

I invite everyone I meet to join us here on BYC.  Not many do.  Sure there are serious breeders on here  but there are more hobbyist and they don't care about what to cross to what.  They just want to talk chickens and share their experience. You dig?

I love talking to people here and I'm only a hobbyist

I ccan't seem to find the post about someone building a coop with recycled materials but if you want a roof like a barn the angel to cut is 22.5° instead if a hoop

Hi guys, we live 45 min east of Buffalo, and 45 minutes west of Rochester. Our "town" is so tiny I never mention it by name on line (we have a young daughter) I haven't read the whole thread but I am seeing alot of local people in the posts I have read. Very cool!
Just thought I would say HI

Woohoo! Its been a ten egg day so far! Bout time those terrorists started pulling their weight! Still cold out. Silkies are out running around. Silly chickens. Got my incubator out and up and running. Picked out all my eggs to set on sunday.

JLaw---glad to see you have heat

Welcome Peggy!

Thanks guys! I haven't been to Forestville, but I am from Amherst originally (moved out here last winter). My sister lives in Hamburg, and I have family back in Amherst/Buffalo and also down in Stow, near Jamestown. My other 1/2 is originally from Batavia. His family is mostly there.
We are new to chickens. Just getting set up now for 6 chicks from TSC in a week or two. So nervous/excited. I hope they do OK. I have set up our laundry room for the brooder area after deciding against our basement (cold and damp).
