ETA: You should really read Jack's post concerning this storm...it's still pretty much up in the air. Now, normally, I love me a good snowstorm. But I'm only now seeing grass for the first time all winter! And the projected arctic blast after the storm? UGH!
Well I booked my flight for TX next month so Mother Nature better get over her attitude pretty darn soon!! I've just about had it with her the cold shoulder she's giving us.

We have to take a road trip down to Pittsburgh for hubby to have a sialendoscopy at UPMC (salivary stone removal, lol...local docs don't do the procedure, they just remove the entire gland).

We pushed the procedure off to the end of March, in the hopes that we would avoid spring snow. I really hope this is the last blast. My chickens are beating the crap out of each other and I think its because they are spending too much time in the coop. But if there's snow in their yard, they refuse to go outside, lol.

I hope all goes well.

You'll have to build a run for them to go out in the winter. What breeds/breed do you have. Some breeds do better in confinement.

Lapeerian, Deb called back. She is not using her incubator this year, but she has some broodies that are hatching mostly Buff Orpingtons and a few SS. Later in the season she may hatch from Welsummers. She is looking for a Partridge Rock roo. She has some EE, but no americauna pure chicks as she needs a roo. So there you have it. She says feel free to call and see what she has.

I got a PR roo from her chicks, but she is probably looking for unrelated line. Thanks for the info! Got my brooder scrubbed clean today, just need to find where I put those feeders....
ETA: hubby cleaned horse stalls today, little girl pretended to ride a hay bale, Harvey dog hung out with the chickens all around him without reaction, and I watched the chickens. Spring must be near, the roosters are getting randy. The youngest of them all, the October EE roo, is rather brazen. He does arial assault from the rafters in the morning lol. He sneak attacks hens and boldly stands up to the other Roos. Little pest will have to go. Still loving the old GLW as the main man.

They do have a run, but it's not covered and that part of the yard is a snow magnet, lol. Approx 1/3 of the run is melted right now, so they are getting out. But the extreme cold we had this winter, plus the snow pack...I have one hen with all of her feathers and three that are missing patches. Even the rooster has been picked at...his feathers are all ragged.

And of course, the bully in the flock is my best layer.

I have three Easter Egger hens, one Barred Rock hen (the bully...and her name is Sally Strutters) and one Barred Rock roo.

Mine used to hate the snow until I moved their food & water outside and their dust bath and scratch was out in their old run. They have walked thru 6 inches of snow to get to their old run. It gets the sun from morning till after noon so it's probably warm in there since it's against the garage. Now they walk thru the snow with no problem :)
