NY chicken lover!!!!

Evening all! Loooooong day at work today. Figures I would miss a beautiful day. Soooooo much mud here. I feel like I will either sink down so far that I will never get out or that I will slip and fall (and need a crane to get up!). Muddy for the cheeps too. Supposed to get rain tomorrow so I think I will leave the terrorists in. Their run is atrocious. My silkies have covered runs so theirs arent bad. Thelma and Louise did meet me in the driveway when I came home tonight. Of course they just wanted to know if I brought them something good to eat. My cat is funny. She has to go into the room where the incubator is and look at the eggs with me. She likes to be in there during lockdown too and I think she hears the chicks inside the eggs when they are hatching. I know she likes to get in with the chicks when they are little and mommy them. I told her they dont appreciate being groomed. Silly cat.

Lynzi--if you see it again, kill it! They may look cute but they are vicious. We caught one by chance in dh havaheart trap. It was trying to attack me from behind the bars. Nasty teeth on them. I wasnt even doing anything but looking at it. Only good weasel is a dead weasel.

Pharm - I wish I could say done deal but I don't even have anything that I could kill it WITH! I think I may get a trap next time I'm out. And I need to put a lock on the nest box door to the big coop. The silkies are in the shed and there's really no way of getting in there unless the door is open. The Orp coop is sealed pretty tight, not sure how one would ever get in there. If be more concerned about the rabbits at this point than the chickens. I'll be keeping my eye out tho since I'm home all day.

Just got back from being outside and I just want to cry at the amount of MUD that is out there along the back of my house. ALL the snow that melting is coming down the mountain and coming down the hill that my yard is and creating HUGE puddles of water and mud back there. So much that I want to call a place and have them dump a couple of yards of dirt back there so I can even it all out. I don't see it ever drying out.

And with this storm tomorrow? I'll probably have a full size skating rink in my backyard!

Have you tried planting a ground cover. There are some very nice ones that will take over. Plus some low growing every greens.

I could give you a picture of my ex mother in law. She so ugly when she sees the doctor he makes her wear a bag.

Seriously you could make the trap and set it far away from you place. Google the trap and see what I mean.

Weather was nice just the same. Cleaned out some of the wet stuff from one coop. Cleaned these messy ducks. Let all the birds out for a stroll. It is muddy but I can deal with it since I can work outside.

Took a stroll my self but my knee really hurts. I also sat outside in the sun, for bit reading a new Duck magazine.

There is a house for sale down the road with 19 or so acres. In the $70's.

Take care,

Not in this area yet. It's the flattest part of the yard (and still not completely flat) so its where I put the kids' sandbox and pool. Although this year I was thinking of putting a garden there. Problem is it's in shade for a good part of the day so maybe I'll just do a raised flower bed up high enough so the chickens cant get to it if they are free ranging. Make it look really different. Who knows. I really just want someone to come throw a yard of dirt down in this spot so I can even it out. It's so nasty. And it stinks because of the sulfur in the water coming down off the mountain!

Mud is a problem here, too. 50+ outside and I can't even let my kids outside because of the mud and wet. Plus, to add insult to injury, the human access door (hah) to my chicken coop is sitting in a deep puddle of water. Tomorrow, when the temps drop, that door is going to freeze shut and I'll have a heck of a time getting in. Hubby dug a small trench to try and drain the puddle, but it's still pretty deep.

Can't wait for it all to dry up.

Do you have a trash can? As inhuman as it sounds you can trap it and fill the trash can with water and put the whole trap in the can....drowning it. (I said it sounded inhuman, but if you don't have a gun, what's a gal to do?)

OMG you don't either! LOL I was afraid to admit to that! My kids have been asking to go out but I have to tell them no because I don't have any rain boots at the moment that they can use to go out there!

Well that's what I WOULD have to do because I have nothing. And I don't think I can bring my self to killing it with my own "bare hands".
