NY chicken lover!!!!

:lau   well they had a lot of different color parents .. these are from Jeffs birds in Syracuse, he had a egg ad in the hatching egg auction part in Feb..  He did write on the shells in pencil who they were from I'll retrieve shells when they done pipping. I know nothing about silkie colors. One is buff lol the other two I have no idea till I look at the writing on shell they had rolled and it was under them.

Oh! I went back and read the ad again they have Blue, Buff and White all bearded. wooot! I thought they looked like they were gonna have beards.

X2 what Rancher said, where is this Jeff?? I didn't know there was someone else so close with Silkies! That's great!
Congrats on your marriage today!

New Babies :So do you think your babies are a polish silkie mix ?
Yes, Every single one of them! But that's alright, because they have some of the silkie characteristics (5 toes, crest feathers) but with the smooth feathering, I might be able to use them in my sizzle project. Not sure yet but I've ready a number of combos people have used to get a "smooth" bird to breed back to a sizzle. I googled Polish/Silkie crosses and was bought back to a page here and they are actually nice looking birds. They don't look that much different from my Silkie/Cochin crosses I just got. So I'll hold onto them to see how they feather out and then decide which 1 or 2 I may want to keep.

Hey I managed to catch up. This week has been horribly busy at work and then home chores at night. Every time I got 1 to 2 pages read on the forum the phone would ring or someone would show up.

Congratulations to JWEBB

Happy hatching for those doing that.

Maybe I'll get to candle my eggs in the next day or two.

And thank-you I love my dog he keeps eye on the baby chicks and he trust to get the ducks in at night he is very smart tho haven't trained him to heard tho even tho once a year our neighbor brings in sheep so all the herding dog can show off she use to go to shows but not ant more

So ive had my chicks for just about a week now. I figured because of where i lived it was ok to have them, but i guess not. I went online last night to the towns website and there are ordinances in place stating i need at least 5 acres of land to have them. I really dont want to get rid of them. Any ideas??

Perhaps you can find someone who can keep chickens to take them off your hands. Unfortunately even though you don't want to give them up you must for their sake. The longer you have them the more you'll become attached to them.

Jeff in Syracuse? Is he a member?

Thank you so much NY'ers for the well wishes. We said our vows! My DH's cousin who is a town Justice married us

and my SIL and MIL were there. We ate and had a good time after. DH thought I was losing my marbles up at 3am telling the chicks " wake up , get out now, you can dooo eeeet" but I read they hear me and my encouragement is good imprinting on them. I'm so amazed at all the chirping thru the pip hole! and the little guys run over to who is pipping and encourage them to come out too. I was cracking up. I've got four out now. One golden buff OMG so pretty and two blues and one white. They are all laying next to the egg that will most likely hatch next encouraging him.

Just love it.

Rancher and Lindsay, yes Jeff is a member here. Here is his ad for the chicks so you guys can contact him. He shows them and is very active with his birds. Nicely priced too.

I would be interested to know too....who is Jeff in Syracuse? There are not too many

I helped the buff one real quick just so he had a air hole my gosh took him forever I was afraid he would suffocate. The chicks were worried about him too he was really struggling. Just turned the fan off and pull the egg out fast pip the membrane for him and put him back on warm, damp paper towel. Have more pipping good and looking good. At some point tonight I'l get some babies in the brooder and some junk outa there maybe but too many just opening now to do it. Some of the La Bresse are finally pipping. Turkeys I don't see much yet but some rocking. Hope I'm not boring anyone but this is so exciting. I only had hens hatch chicks when I had chickens before. Really neat.
