NY chicken lover!!!!

AH you are right! I put it wrong. I have Barnevelder eggs to hatch next weekend and I'm cukoo about chickens hatching today lol. Thank you

Yes they are a Brabanters trio!! I have to remember the topnot for Brabanter.. waiting patentily for my Barnevelders to hatch! They are the double laced black blue variety.
Ooooh they will be beautiful!!! You are a hatching a lot this year!

Evening all. Congratulations on your marriage Jwebb. What a nice way to celebrate with hatching chicks. You have some cuties! Dont mind Rancher--one day he will come over to the silkie side! Lynzi--your setup looks good. I am sure they are happy to be outside and on grass. We still have snow in our yard. So I came home to 4 pips (dh only sees one) and he heard the one chick peeping so hopefully by morning I will have some babies. I keep going in to look at them and chirp to them to encourage them along. I know I am crazy. My cat is going bonkers because I think she hears them moving around inside their shells. Humidity is holding at 64 percent and the temp is 99.6. Got my fingers crossed for a good hatch. Today is day 21 but I think that they are a little slower coming along due to the coolness of the house. The next two days will be telling. I am so excited for babies.

Now you know I have no intention of contacting anyone who shows non - chickens as silkies are known to me. You might not know how I feel about them, but you'll learn.

Oh and congrats from me too.
Thanks Rancher

, yes I have heard your opinions on Silkies. But don't you have frizzles? thats not a very far cry from Silkies! You will be assimilated!

Wow! I Cannot even begin to tell you how happy I am that it finally warmed up and the sun came out today! I have been dying to get these birds out of my shed and onto some grass in the sun and today I finally did it! I started taking my old silkie coop apart. I wanted just the coop/house part of it off the run that was attached to it because I planned on setting up pens with my poultry netting. It took me forever to figure out because as I was cutting I kept running into screws but here it is!

Then I started getting my poultry netting in order:

And the other pen to the left of this coop/pen:

And I finally moved everyone outside!!!

It'll be a little tight tonight but tomorrow I plan to build my other coop that's been sitting in a box in my kitchen since February and moving it out to the pen on the left. That will be for my larger pen of 5 birds. I think for now I'm going to keep the Orps in the coop Stony built me. As much as I want to move all the bantams in there, they don't need all the height it has. If anything they would need something with more floor space.

wow that looks great!! we have too much snow yet since it HAD to snow again last night.

can hardly wait to get outside and get the chicks grown a little more and out too. I really like the netting idea.

I'm going to have to post a picture of all my snow. Pretty sure we still have at least two feet on the ground. Both me and the chickens are getting antsy. It has been warm enough that it's starting to melt off though, thank goodness.

I had a good hatch today, but I'm thinking that I'll no longer hatch eggs from the leghorn hen. Not a single egg hatched of hers except the twins that I pulled out. All other were malpositioned except one, which for some reason turned itself halfway around the egg without continuing to zip, cut off its air supply, and died. All the EEs hatched, all the buff brahmas hatched, one that I think was from my rir hatched, and one from my australorp hatched. No problems with any eggs except the leghorns. Perhaps it's because she's getting older now.

Pharm, my mama cat does the same. She must have heard them days before I did. Couple days ago she started camping out on top of the hatcher. Hope they get out and you have surprises by morning. I did not realize they could take so long to come out after the external pip.

Glad I'm not the only one that encourages them to get out

My DH said he thought I was kinda stressing but then he came over to watch the eggs rock and stuff when I would talk. Told him I am not the crazy one, its imprinting!

Congrats on the hatch!

My orloff eggs are the same for next week I fear. Only two most probably will hatch from 10 started. It was a older hen. I'll be happy if I get just one even.

TSC - thats why I ended up with more comets ..I really wanted a few different kinds this year .
At Geneva TSC they knew nothing about chickens ..
Had too many in a bin ...didnt know how to take care of the Boo Boo ones
I felt soooo sorry for them ...my MAMA instinct kicked in .

Well TT & tweetT are out with the flock now ..in a dog cage ..He is feathered out & is bigger & has Momma to keep him warm out there .
I did nt want to do it this soon ...but I had to make room for the new babies & TT was starting to get out ( cabin fever ) and explore & poop in the cellar everywhere .

Ooooh they will be beautiful!!! You are a hatching a lot this year!
I'm excited to see them the Barnevelders are so gorgeous imo and the eggs look really nice! I like what i have read about their personality. Your pic of your Barnevelder is beautiful! I really like the BYC for all the threads on all the birds and everything else under the sun. Its all here!

I hope to have a good yard of chickens and a turkey pen by the end of summer. My two main projects are large fowl Orloffs
love.gif
and the 2nd project is Auburn Java which I have no eggs for yet but will get some in the next week or so and see how it goes. I bought 3 eggs off ebay last month ( stupid me, the odds for shipping eggs can be so bad sometimes) and they were all duds. Next time I am buying from a breeder and give myself some better odds.

Next weekend I have Cream Legbars and the Barnevelders to hatch with the few Orloff eggs that will make it. I just set RIR and Barred Rocks tonight in the bator for some layers. That will keep me busy now for a while growing all these chicks.

Lost count on how many cups of coffee I let get cold today going to the hatcher and seeing what going on in there

I put the Brabanter and Mottle Java chicks in with the Orloffs and everyone is getting on fine thankfully. That made room for these little silkies and all in the brooder.
