NY chicken lover!!!!

Well the babies are outside for their 2 nd night ..so weird to not have them in the house .
The light is only on for a few hours before they go to bed ..
They are used to being up with me ..till after Midnight ..

Im trying to adjust them to regular time

I let them out today in a baby pen ...they had no idea where to go to get back in ..
I had to catch them all to put them back in ..

Poor little TT is no getting picked on by the rest of the flock ...I never realized how much Skiddy protected her ...
The hens stayed away from them ...or HIM
So I made a special roost for her way up high ...The twins decided they liked it ...Ply White Rocks can fly pretty good too

They look so uncomfortable up there ...LOL ..they didnt get down though .
I swear they still remember how I put them in that little dog cage & perched it way up high when they were smaller than the flock

Anyone elses rooster deciding they are going back into jerk phase as spring comes around? I thought after my last round with the rooster last week it would have learned it's lesson. But nope came at me today so it got kicked and he limped away and went and hit under some wood out front where no one could see his dumb rear end . I did try to make peace and put some food out by him don't know if he will accept it or just try it again. I think I maybe putting him in the crockpot along with a hen or two here soon. I think he's worst this year than last year at least with me.

Thanks. That's helpful. Do the freshly laid eggs need to sit for a day or two or will they show the bullseye on the day they're laid?

The eggs I'm checking are from my geese. The gander is not shy in his attempts to fertilize his goose's eggs. So it's probably just a matter of time.

Anyone out there interested in brown Chinese goose eggs once they do show fertility? Below is a pic of my pair.

Still sitting!

My Frenchy is staying in the nest but she has no eggs. I'm wondering if she's broody. She has broody before but she is nearly 6 now. She has laid some eggs I think but none in the past few days. I think I'll stick an egg in the nest and see what she does with it. It's not like her to stay in the nest box. I am worried but she looks fine and is eating okay.

Anyone got some advice or thoughts on the matter?

The bullseye should show up right away. I don't bother to check, I just put my goose eggs in the incubator & wait 5 days to candle. Of course, you can't eat them afterwards if that is what you want to do with the duds...

I am such a novice when it comes to incubating & hatching, I wasn't going to attempt goose eggs. Besides I am so extremely weak when it comes to goslings that if they did hatch I would not be able to let them go. :) You are welcome to them if you'd be willing to check fertility on them in your bator. I should have 3 or 4 by next week.

I won't be heart broken if no one wants them b/c goose eggs do make amazing omelets. ;)

Spring is in the air. My GLW refuses to let the other Roos to be near the hens. I like to keep 2 Roos for protection due to flock size, but he is keeping the others away. All of my Roos are respectful of me, no problem boys allowed. The white EE is the youngest and most obnoxious, but runs from people. I'd say your best bet will be cull that roo immediately. Chickenstock is coming up, get a new roo. I have both the little white EE and a blue barred OE roo from Tab & Trav's birds if you would like one. OE is 1 year old, EE is 7 months. Also have a Partridge Rock roo, 10 months from a good breeder. Free. From the TSC chicks, one is a BLRW bantam roo, but only a month old.
My hens are looking bare backed, some more than others. Time to reduce Roos.
