Rancher--give her some eggs and see what she does. She is your queen after all and so you should keep her happy.

Jlaw--crockpot, freezer camp or canning jar for that roo. You will find plenty of us on here who will give you a roo. I have already informed the 3 barred rock month old boys they are canning material. They keep trying to rip off my skin. I have plenty of boys here if you need one. Mean roo is tasty!

Lap--I may kick mine out sooner rather than later and no heat lamp either. The dust and stinkyness is getting to me and I clean every day!

i put the brats out in their playpen till 2. Started to rain so I brought them back in. Got the empty coop stripped out inside and scraped out anything that stuck. I will never get off all the stuff inside so I will leave it be. I did mix up my permethryn spray and I sprayed the crap out of it inside. I was careful not to get it on me or breath it in and closed up the coop so it would seep into everywhere. If there was anything living in there in the walls, its dead now! Its the only time I commit chemical warfare. Took a break and sat with the brats for a bit and watched Bill take a long dust bath. Good thing I looked where he was doing it as there was a crater by the fence that they would have snuck out from. Found some large rocks and filled it in. Reattached the deer fencing over the run so the hawk will be detered. Reinforced the one side of the run with some wood and large rocks along the bottom. Started laying wood along the other side of the run on the bottom prepare for building a raised bed along that side. I have lots and lots and lots and lots of rocks so that will be my excercise for the month...moving rocks.

Oh my you've got some fancy chicks coming! I would be excited as well!

I just ordered some true ameraucana eggs today to put under my broody!

Help? This is the first year I have had ducks. Muscovies, if it makes a difference in your advice.

I found the first place my duck hen was laying. I picked up the eggs, put a number on it so I could shake up the first ones laid so they don't grow into more ducks than I can handle. Put the eggs back in their spot, but I added a piece of cloth under them, cuz they were laying on bare rocks.

I watched her walk into the barn and walk out a while later. Went to check for egg and write the number 4 on it for...see reason above.
No fourth egg. Hmmm...

Today I found the SECOND place she is laying. These 2 eggs are much bigger than the first 3 I found. But they are also laying on bare dirt.
What is my question, you may be thinking. I am wondering if handling her eggs caused her to choose a second spot to lay. OR if she wants privacy and will abandon any nest I find her laying in.

I don't like where she is laying now. I am going to be hard pressed to make it a safe place for her to sit. I will be able to do it, however I will probably make her nervous and she will abandon THAT nesting site.

So what should I do? Leave her alone and hope that something doesn't eat her while she is sitting on the eggs (when she finally has enough eggs and starts to sit) Or leave her alone and move her when she starts to sit?
I know what I would do with a broody hen, but this duck is just accumulating eggs and hasn't truely "gone broody".
