NY chicken lover!!!!

Oh no! Can you set that trap that you used for the last predator??
It belonged to a friend of ours. I have left him a message but he is still out of town for the week. As soon as DH gets home I may run out and just go buy one. Don't really have the extra cash right now for that expense, but will figure out something. They weren't babies, but they were not that big either. Think that it might be 2 young males, but I'm not getting that close to check.

Watched one make its way down, but just before it made it to the ground it stopped and looked over at all the ducks and chickens in the run. I'm going to make sure today that everything is safe and secure for tonight. The second one is still up in the tree. I was standing on the porch with my binoculars watching and as soon as he noticed me he ran back up the tree. I keep checking every so often to see if he is still there. I don't want to get to close so I just watch from the house.

I tried to move my broodies last night. I started with Peepers cause she is in the top box. A soon as I moved her and the nest into the dog crate she freaked out and started to attack the gate. I was afraid that she would break the eggs so I put her back. As soon as she got back in the nest box she settled right down. Back to the drawing board. I think that I may just clean out the coop and try to put the nest boxes right in the crates in the coop for now. Hopefully she'll stay in it like that. It is just going to make it a little cramped in there with the crates. And now with these coons around I want to make sure that they are super safe.

That is the coon sitting in the top of the tree.

Update: Just went out to look and the 2nd coon is now out of the tree. Out of site, but not out of mind! Getting a plan of attack together to combat the problems!!

I wish it were a little closer...I'm so sick of getting replies to my ads on CL asking if the extra roos are still available and then when I respond saying they are I never hear back again...ever. Its so annoying.

Well I have 2 broody ducks now who are both sharing the same nest. Fine with me, I don't need any more duck eggs at this point. Still have 2 dozen in my fridge. I also have collected eggs from my orpingtons and I'm going to set one more batch for this year. I was going to hatch from both girls but I've decided since they are consistant layers to only gather 7 from my blue hen with hopes to get more splash. I'll let them grow out, see who is a roo, who is a hen, who looks the nicest and then decide to who to part with from there. I'd like to get a nice looking splash hen to add to my trio (I already have one chick growing out) and possibly keep roo and "retire" Gru? Who knows. He doesn't bother anyone so probably not. Unless of course the next Roo ends up being just as nice or nicer than him.
The one splash chick I've hatched (probably out of 60+ chicks) is really starting to get a comb. Looks like a little roo.....

I should have more hatching tomorrow. I'm not sure why I'm not getting splashes!!

I got one splash too out of the two eggs Orp eggs I had under my broody silkie. My luck it will probably end up being a roo, cuz you know, that's all I raise apparently.

I was putting eggs aside from both my hens (lav & blue) but I'm going to place JUST the blue hen's eggs in my bator with hopes to get all splash, or at least more splash than blue. So we'll see.

Good morning fellow feathered lovers! I just let all the peeps have the run of their bedroom while I cleaned the brooder and spent some time watching their crazy antics. My biggest chick is def on the bottom of the pecking order, the others wouldn't let her get any meal worms. I snuck her 2 when they weren't looking tho.
I worry about her cause she doesn't even seem to want to play with them. They all run around the room, trying out their wings and jumping on each other happily and she just sits with me.
Sure am looking forward to either the weather starting to cooperate or them getting enough feathers so I can kick them out!

Sent you a PM, not sure if you got it...I have a blue Orpington chick I hatched out...I believe it was you who was looking for Orps??

your biggest chick is it a different color than the rest ?
It hangs with you for safety ...Probably that one will be the tamest as it gets older .
How old are they ? what is your coop set up ...?

So much for the Orp eggs gojng into the bator, Ella finally wants to sit so I have the eggs to her:

I'm tempted give my girls more eggs.

One of Frenchy's is quarantined. Not sure what the problem is. Discharge from one eye. I rinsed it out, but not sure how much effort I will make.

One of the only two CR chicks to hatch died. I don't know why. That makes this one chick a $55 chick.

I'm hoping it's rooster.
We shall see.
Nutty- has ordered chicks and plans to trade me for some I think.

Not sure if any of the Del eggs will hatch. Tomorrow is THE day or there abouts.

DW sees Oncologist tomorrow.

Had a question but can't remember what it was. I'll be back.

I am back. We have a 2009 Chevy Cobalt. Any one else here have one?

We are waiting to hear about the ingnition recall but there is a noise with the wheels. Sounds real bad.

Anything I can give my silkies to help give them a boost and start laying? I've had them for well over a month now, maybe 2? One is over a year and one was 7 months I believe when I got her. I have yet to see an egg.
