NY chicken lover!!!!

Here are our stacked brooders. 21 in top and 19 in bottom. They're about 3x6.To the left is the bulk tank that runs through the wall. If we were still milking cows the milk inspector would not be pleased. We stopped in 2009 with no desire to milk again. I did know a farmer whose chickens went in the milkhouse and sat right on the bulk tank with milk in it. He didn't win any quality awards

Hi all!! New to BYC and chickens!! Always owned ducks and Geese. Last year sold all my muscovies before winter, my females were so broody we had hatchlings everywhere!! Two/three batches of 20/25 a summer per female. I was over ran by muscovies!! Lol As much as I loved them it was very overwhelming!.
This year we decided on trying our hand at chickens and a few weeks ago bought 12 chicks of varying ages and breeds.. (3) red cross (3) Australorps (3) Amercaunas and (3)!light brahmas they are all pullets 2 months and under. All growing well, quite the characters and I love watching them!
We live in Pulaski Ny between watertown and Syracuse and its great to know that there are other chicken folks in NY! Im looking forward to getting to know some of you! :)

Anyone else raise bbs=blue black splash english orpingtons would love to get some more pullets locally as its getting too hot to have them shipped from other states located in cny sherburne earlville norwich area

Welcome. I'm not to far away from you down here in oswego.

i think my wife ended up taking about 75 pictures, she loves photography and the ladies are quite photogenic. My daughter is in quite a few also, she adores them already. I can't wait to watch them grow so i can put them outside and see how they react with their environment even more.

They are ! We want to see your chick too !

To all the new members welcome your gonna love this place. I have been extremely busy lately between the animals and the garden I am on the go lately all the time. Had to go get more pepper plants because my chickens plucked them all out so have now put up a fence to keep them out the little troublemakers. The goats are great wish I would have gotten some sooner. Ok time for this girl to get some sleep,

Well today was another exciting day with the peeps! They are just over 2 weeks old and I can't believe how fast they are growing. Most of them are starting to like me. I've been taking them out to play in the yard and they follow me like little ducklings.

Nice to see so many upstaters here! I'm in Geneva, between Rochester and Syracuse.

My chicks flipped out over yogurt this morning!

Do you have any kind of run or fencing that you could corral them into prior to them going into the coop? I found this much easier with ducks. They should go in tonight on their own however keep in mind, ducks like to stay out later than chickens. Well mine do at least. So if all of your chickens are in and the ducks aren't, give them a little extra time to get to their coop on their own instead of assuming they're not getting it when it comes to lock up at night. I wait till dark now to go outside and lock up so I don't go out once for the chickens and then twice for the ducks.

Just the run off the small coop. We should have opened the door to it and let them in and collected them that way. Wife said they went in big coop fine last night but late like ya'll said.

Man my house smells bad. I had an egg explode in the incubator. I don't know what happened to this thing it shouldn't have been more than say 13 days old at most. At first I thought a dog pooped upstairs when I couldn't find anything I went down and was walking around until I noticed it was mainly by my bator. This is not fun I cant get the smell out of the house.

I have a trio of Orps- a splash English Orpington that's the size of a turkey, an American Lavender hen and their daughter a blue hen. I just hatched out 2 of the blue's eggs under a broody 2.5 weeks ago and got a blue and splash and I also have 7 in the incu right now that should hatch in 2 weeks or so. I'm looking to get one or two more splash and the rest will be up for grabs.

Morning all. Woke up last night to some storm! Way cool lighting and thunder. So glad it has cooled off some. I think the cheeps are glad too.
