NY chicken lover!!!!

You can't shoot a hawk. not sure how to prevent the attacks beside a covered run.

ask your local law enforcement they may be able to help you relocate without harming the animal

1. You can NOT shoot a hawk. It's illegal.
2. It's not likely they will trap a hawk to relocate it. Hawks are territorial and it will most likely just come back.

I suggest a covered run. Shelters where chickens can hide. Scarecrows. Being active in the yard so the hawk sees you and knows there are folks about. Plant trees, shrubs and tall grasses to hide chickens. You might even like to stick Picnic table umbrellas around the yard. That might work.

Some have suggested a mirror covered cones hanging around the yard. Not sure I can explain this very well.

Some patterned birds have better camouflage than others. White birds are easy targets. Black birds easy in the winter against the white snow. Barred are good and there are the Cuckoo patterned birds. Penciled Rocks. There are many breeds that come in the Partridge and other patterns.

ok wasnt trying to step on any toes so to speak i have a huge red tail hawk behind my house but she doesnt bother my birds so i just put in my opinion

I've done the water test with my very first broody's eggs because they were too dark to candle. Basically you get a bowl of water the same temp as the incubator, place the eggs gently in the water and when all is still, they wiggle. If they are not alive they won't wiggle obviously. But even still, I would leave the eggs under the broody even if they didn't move and it was before day 21. You just never know.

My 6 sizzle eggs have been wiggling since yesterday. They have 4 days left. That to me is enough to know they're still alive. No more candling here. Fingers crossed they hatch!

I've never seen eggs wiggle. They sometimes pip before day 21 and sometimes not. They just zip and their out. I guess I should figure the girls are the late ones. Taking their time to get pretty.

Next time I do the water test I'll take a video for you. It's kinda cool. But really no different than seeing them wiggle in the incubator.

I decided while I was waiting for a response that I would just let them be. I just have to be very careful. I had to add more straw to Rosita's nest today. Some how an egg broke under her and it was so sad. There was a little baby chick that was in the broke egg. I am just so worried about the other eggs. The second of my Peepers eggs is gone, no signs of it left, so down to just one and hope and pray that it hatches. I'm hoping and praying that they all hatch, but only time will tell...
