NY chicken lover!!!!

I have a 7 week old RIR rooster I'm looking to rehome anyone interested I'd be will to drive 100 miles outside of Albany to make delivery.

Howdy Neighbor. I'm over here in Feura Bush type area. Wish I needed a roo....but I am full up on my roo population. (you would have saved me 8 bucks to boot)

Do you need Muscovy ducklings? I have a few.

17 is "a few", right?

Does it hurt to get bit by a full grown chicken? Do they break the skin or just leave a bruise? Just wondering because I just got my toe pecked pretty hard for them still being small. Owie.

Yes it can hurt a LOT. Try not to let it happen. Leather gloves are nice. Avoiding the head end of the chicken works well for me. I like to grab them near their rear, above the tail feathers on the body and drag them close enough to get them by both wings. Once you have their wings pinned they tend to calm down. (Except Mean Marge...she bites just to be spiteful and I know it....I avoid touching her except when absolutely necessary and then only in full body armour. LOL)

Amazingly enough ducks don't hurt near as much. I was surprised how little it hurt. (Still left a bruise tho. LOL)

So a couple days after setting Breda eggs I unexpectedly happened upon some Cochin eggs(chicken stock raffle :)). So they hatched out a couple days apart and are in the brooder together now. I thought it was interesting to see how their foot feathers are developing differently. The Breda is the darker, black bird & the Cochin is the lighter blue.

Perhaps it's just the difference between a stiff feathered bird and a soft feathered bird, but thought I'd share. The breads have huge fans of feathers on their feet. Walking around straight up the way they do is comical w their feathered clown shoes.

Love the feathered feet!!!

Went berry picking yesterday, got about 20 lbs worth.

Then made 2 batches of jam. Had some on toast this morning, yum!

Hubby also put some in a jar with coconut vodka to infuse. Did 5 pints in the freezer. And we had a couple daiquiris to finish the night. Now just have another 10 lbs to do something with.

Wow!

Hello all ... I'm in the western ny area , just started with my chickens . I got 6 from tractor supply and raised them inside until the weather broke . Well needless to say a fox got 4 of my chickens !!! Now I have no idea where I can get more from ? Any ideas . Thankfully we got the fox and a few other nasty preditors around . I was really hoping for eggs soon .

Colleen where in wny are you?

I'm still hatching eggs. I'm working with white rocks, Partridge rocks, and crossing the 2 as we'll. I have some cinnamon queens, but am not planning to hatch them unless someone really wanted me to because the sex link doesn't usually carry to the second generation. They were also only purchased as filler till my real project birds got up and laying

And the rumpless chick has succumbed. Since neither of the parents are rumpless, I wonder if it had internal problems? It was laying down by itself this morning. Just now found it dead.

Aruacana's (not spelled right I know so don't waste your time correcting me, please) have lethal gene. At least that's what I've read. So it might have been that. Now I do have an Lav. Aruacana roo over my ee's and a frizzle.

Someone I sold eggs too told me she got a roo and hen with no rump.

Hinkjc in PA has Aruacanas so you could contact her if you're interested. I think most folks don't want to deal with the lethal gene thing.

Sorry for your loss,

Rancher
