Burdock Leaves...

I don't know if any of you are aware, but it can be really helpful in healing a wound!!!

In 2012, hubby broke his leg. Well, then he got a nasty blister on his heel from the cast. I've seriously never seen anything so gross in all my days. It was BAD. I was pretty sure his heel would be forever scarred/damaged.

So he was casted with an open heel cast and we then had to do wound care on that wound. Well a day or two later, our Mennonite neighbors came over to share a meal and when we were telling them about hubby's heel, they were like, "Oh, you should put burdock on it." They showed us what Burdock was (we have tons and tons of it) and how to use it (blanch the leaves and then apply them as a compress...I don't remember how long).

So we did what they said and two days later the wound was dried up and much smaller than originally. When we followed up with his orthopedic surgeon that next week, they were astounded at how much healing had occurred in the wound.

Just a little tidbit..lol!

Im ok with it.

Not much going on here.

Quiet wet humid day. Went to my son's elementary awards ceremony. Tomorrow is his 5th grade graduation. Busy this time of year with end of school stuff.. ;)
The girls arent as active today, Im guess do to the heat. Im glad thier run is completely shaded.
Still cant get them to eat strawberries. They stomp around on them and try to make wine though..:/ whatta mess they can make. Im sticking with grass, sunflower seeds, scratch, grit and their normal feed for now, I must have the pickiest chickens around..

The upstairs hallway is the only place in the house that isn't a high traffic area. There is a large landing at the right at the top of the stairs. I use it for various things. Most of the time it is my craft area. This year it turned into my green house area. I have it in the far corner where it will be bothered the least amount. (The kids are only upstairs to sleep) It is also the warmest part of the house. DH hates the heat so he usually has the ac on downstairs. The only other place that I could put it is out in the garage and the temp changes so much out there it would drive me crazy trying to keep it stable. The only other place that I thought about putting it was in our bedroom, but the light would tick off DH so it can't go there. I know that no matter where I put it he isn't going to like it.

Weeds are in the garden. I have worked so hard to put the fence up to keep the chickens out I don't think that it would be a good idea to let them in. I would think that they would tear it all up so it is old fashion pulling for this girl. If the kids were older I'd have them help me but DS is only 3 and if DD is helping then DS would want to help to and I have a hard enough time trying to keep him out as it is. To let him in would just drive me nuts trying to make sure that he pulled the right weeds even if he was right next to me.

He would rather just play in his sand box which is next to the garden. I prefer it that way too...Hey does any one want to come to a weed pulling party?
Oh don't I know about chickens in the garden. I once had my pepper plants in the wagon and did a few things before getting to them. When I turned to get them to put them in the ground they were gone. Stupid birds ate the tops fight off all of them.

This year they got in and ate some of my garlic in the back garden. I haven't put up sufficient blockage and the EE's sail right over it. I do need to put in the gates. If they can find a way in all is lost.

Evening all. I indeed misspoke earlier when I said castor oil and I meant cod liver oil. We order both at the pharmacy for guests. Cod liver oil is what I use for the cheeps in the winter. Thank you for correcting me Rancher. Not enough coffee this morning I guess. No rain as of yet but its coming. Dh let everyone out before I came home so I had quite the greeting when I pulled in. They are really digging and scratching in the woods so something must be hatching. I heard some more strangled noises this morning before I left. The boys are trying to crow now. Its about to get real interesting around here. They try to make a move on the girls every once in a while and I hear them protest. Girls are having none of that right now.

Rancher--I hear you about the garden. I had to beat mine off with a stick when I brought out my plants to put in the raised bed. The terrorists came running like sunday brunch was about to be served! After several swings of my tools, they backed off. I had to put up deer fencing and make sure that it was tight and weighed down the bottom with rocks just to keep them out.

Metalla--I understand about the burrs. It was always a pain in the you know what to try and get them out of the manes and tails of the horses we had. What a job!

Okay, going to go look in the bator and see if anything is going on yet. Not going to touch. Not touching!

I moved my 9 chickies out to their coop. I feel nervous! I'm so glad they are out of my house tho. Whew, what a loooong 6 weeks that was. Gonna bring them some watermelon as a treat in the morning. I hope they aren't freaked out!

Yesterday I picked up the 2 unhatched duck eggs to throw them out. They moved in my hand and one had a pip in it. So I put them back. Today the one with the pip hadn't done anything further, so I picked off the entire shell and the chicken momma helped it get out of the membrane by picking at the membrane.

So then I picked up the remaining egg and was going to throw IT away cuz nothing was happening with it toward hatching. And I felt a kick against the shell. So I put it back. Maybe it'll hatch tomorrow?

I sold all of the original 17 in less than 24 hours. Well, the 3 I was going to keep I am giving to a young lady for her homeschool science project. Now I have one more hatching and one more possible hatching, so I still will get to keep 2.

I took 4 of them away from the momma today. She was really sad and gathered all her remaining offspring under her wings. I don't know how she is going to handle it when I take 10 more away tomorrow and the last 3 on saturday. (maybe there will be 2 I can let her keep, but time will tell on the late hatchlings) I have never taken babies away from their momma...I just figured they can't count so they wouldn't miss the babies. Guess I was wrong, at least when it comes to ducks.

Hey, if the last one hatches that will be 100% of the eggs hatching. Guess my Drake IS doing his job, even if he keeps falling off the girls while doing it. LOL

Had to Share this egg I cooked this morning ...
Went outside & forgot it ...OH WELL

The white was as crispy as a potato chip
I thought it was Yummy steak and Eggs

Im ok with it.
