thanks but i am not going to chickenstock ..i am to far away and my wife's not really into driving that far and with birds it would drive her crazy-er..lol i am waiting to hear back from a friend who does 4-h and i am hoping she wants them ..not even sure which 5 to get rid of ..i have 11 of them ..if i sell them to some one what should i charge any idea ..i thought like 10 bucks ..but if the friend from 4-h wants them i'll just give them to her ..shes always been real helpful to me in the past ..

I'd try for $15 since they are young and laying. You can always take best offer. I'd take them but we are far apart. I am looking to add some more hens this year.

I have done the last two nyd hatch alongs. Atm I have like 25 chicks in a 2x6 metal trough from tsc. I really need to split them soon. In my basement I have 9 ducks and I think 9 chickens. only because we got lazy on feeding and watering and trying to get through the snow so chickens was dieing so we moved them in also a few was getting frost bite. I think next week I will move them all out side again and then put the bantam cochins/silkies down stairs. Next year I need to set up some wind blocks 3ft drifts each day is a pain to get to chickens.

I agree with you on the 3' drifts. I have been mulling and mulling this chicken thing. I have a HUGE barn in which I can renovate and use for as many chickens as i need. However, it is a little ways from the house. And oddly not a single outside door opens to it.

Then, i had purchased a garage from the Amish that is 10' x 20' which i thought about turning into a chicken house and run also...maybe having two chick locations.

All I know is Spring can not come soon enough. My house is filling up with chicks & I can not seem to find the perfect sized and shaped grow out area for them.

Before I got chickens, I did a test run the winter before. I had to buy a snow blower when we moved into this house because I knew I wouldn't be able to shovel snow. Good garden o' peas, I'd have had a heart attack by now.


I jacked mine up as high as the skis will go and it skims across the top of the lawn. I make sure it's clear where I intend to snow blow. One year I'd dropped a bag of sand and forgot it was there and hit that sucker. Brown snow going across the yard.

You can see from these pictures how far I have to snowblow. AND I'll have to snowblow again before this day is through. Just came in from pulling 8 gallons of water in plastic milk jugs out there in my little red wagon. Now if this old dog can do it, you young ones can surely do it. I have five coops and walk the circuit a few times a day. Sometimes just like to walk the yard cuz it's so nice when the snow is on the trees. I've strung white christmas light around the garden so I can see in the night. I've also got some in the runs. Each year I stock up after the holiday. I'll try to take a picture of the night time. This is a view from the upstairs window.

I would guess that pricing depends on age/breed. I think $10 sounds about right tho' - where in wny are you?

I see young laying hens on Craigslist all the time for $10. Some buyers think it is high, but it takes more than $10 to raise a pullet to that size. I would think a less common breed should bring more.

I do have eggs as well...i sell them about 1-2x a month

i just spent 3 hrs cleaning my coop ..a little warm weather and i get all giddy for spring ..man what a chose ..

i am going to thin down my flock ..i'll have 5 columbian wyandottes that are a yr old this spring and are laying ..not sure what to do with them ..i hate to just give them to someone and not no they are not just going to eat them ..any ideas would be great ..thanks ..

they look a bit like some of Ranchers Chickens - ?
I would say start with $15.00 ..you can always go lower......they are at their peak now
I would nt worry about someone wanting to eat them ...when they are laying ..
If they were old hens ..then I would say they probably would .
