NY chicken lover!!!!

My daughter lives in Ithaca. How can you handle chickens with such cold weather and so much snow? I am near Beaufort, SC and I hate going out when it is under 45. I just got my first 2 chickens yesterday and I am so happy with them.

Welcome Annie ! Chickens are fun !
they do quite well in this weather if they have a draft free coop .
Most dont heat their coops ...the chickens provide the heat ..
I have 22 chickens & 3 ducks in one coop ..when it is closed up it is usually around 30 in there .
Some have heated water dishes & or Food dishes .
My chickens went out every day but that really cold one ...that was way below zero .

i dont know what happened today ..one hen is injured ...
She may have tried to get away from a Roo ..My hubby was home heard nothing ..
She has damage under & behind her comb ..
I brought her in & cleaned her up ...and put some anti bacterial on her

Lindsey, Do NOT be concerned about bnreaking the lease. We have Rental Property
and people have just moved out and did not honor the Lease or pay their final month...etc.

And it is difficult for the landloard to COLLECT and get them to abide by the lease.Landlorad needs to go to court....and MOST landloards do not want that exercise.

And cellar flooded and your NOT getting your rental dollars....choose your moving date.
Regards, Aria

P.S. Wish you were moving back to NYS.....need a different "blood line of Silkies.

Thanks Aria,
I hope you are right but something in the back of my mind sits very uneasy with this guy-he's quite strange and I just don't know how far he'll go for some things. On the other hand he is a cheapskate and if he didnt want to spend $550 on a plumber then he probably won't want to spend thousands bringing me to court to get 3 months rent.

Unfortunately many landlords are cheap. They don't manage their money very well sometimes I think. My DD and hers moved in their last landlord was $15,000 behind on the taxes.

Maybe you can find out about yours. If he is behind not likely he can afford a lawyer.
