NY chicken lover!!!!

Congrats! Be careful, the incubators can multiply as fast as the poultry. I started with one homemade one. Now I have a Brinsea 20 and two Little Giants, lol.
I made one last year and just got this one now..Can't wait Hopefully I'll get be able to get bigger ones next year too!!

I so wanted to put eggs in it tonight, but I want to make sure that where I have it will hold the temps overnight when the heat goes down. I figured that our bedroom would be the best. It has the least amount of traffic and it is well insulated so it hold the temp better then any other room...

Wow~ I had no idea you could get a weasel with a rat trap and some KFC. Thanks for the info.
There are instructions on Youtube of how to make a weasel trap. I've not seen any until now. I don't like to set traps unless I see something. I'm afraid to attract them to the area if they're not already here.

Usually Weasels are ermine this time of yr, white?
Good trap is using a stove pipe on a slight angle with the trap on the bottom with the bait. They go in to investigate and even if they wise up to the situation it's to late they slide right down.

Been busy things for chickenstock are coming along nicely.
Think I am going to have my Amish friends build me a couple of brooders for the chicks I am going to stop to Lowes and get some plexiglass for the sides and some rabbit wire for the top although hubby and I could probably build it we don't have enough hours in the day so it is easier to build it was going to convert an old crib but can't find any for sale that they don't want a fortune for guess I will watch the sales as it gets warmer but for now just will have a couple built besides if I find a bunch of cribs I can always use them for hay racks for my goats and sheep. Went and got some new goats today one is in milk so will try some goats milk soap. Going Thursday to get a few more goats just love them they are so adorable. Can't wait to get a few more sheep from my neighbor too I just love them . Of course chicks will be lots as you can never have enough .

Too small to be a mink. Definitely not an ermine, most likely just a plain old weasel. I can't remember off the top of my head whether or not the subspecies here upstate is the greater or lesser version. I would like to say lesser but I could be wrong. We had ermine at our old farm. Tiny little buggers, but they could do a lot of damage and kill a lot of small livestock in a very short period of time.... Never thought about using the rat trap and KFC method to get them!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and offers of your roosters :)
I knew it wouldn't be difficult to find a replacement haha people are usually more than happy to get rid of them.

I'm going to wait until the spring when my isolation coop is not snowed in and when I know 100% what I'm going to do with my remaining roo. It's really hard because I love him, he's friendly but not the best protector...

Ugh so frustrating. I've had the girls locked up for the past 2 days until I can get around to stringing up some netting and fishing line on top of the run. It's a huge area to cover but I figure that hawk will be back...

They are here!!!!

Went to the Tractor Supply in Cortland and their first batch of chicks have arrived. I heard them the minute the door opened..What a great sound! They just has 2 this morning. Cornish Rock and a "Specialty Straight run" They didn't know what kind they were. There was one that looked like it wouldn't make it. I asked the guy if I could have it cause it was going to die anyways. He said that he was just going to put in the back. I wish that I could have just snuggled it till it passed so it felt some love in it's last minutes. Who know it may not have been too far gone, but I'll never know. The guy said that the rest (300+) were coming tomorrow and Friday.

I must stay strong..I think that I will be loading the incubator tonight or tomorrow. It looks like it is going to be fine where it is...With any luck I will hatch some chicks for a nice early birthday present!

I'll probably end up coming home with some tomorrow, lol. I need some good egg layers, all of mine are now going on four years old and don't lay like they used to. So I'll probably end up with sex links and leghorns. And I can never stay away from the darn bantam bin, so I'll probably end up with a couple little guys too. Chick Days is dangerous!
