Any goat owners/breeders on here? Maybe you have some insight.....

We had a very sad week... actually devastating. Our 2 Nubian does passed away. They went from fine to dead in less than 10 hours... vet did a necropsy, he wasn't sure what happened (said they were in great health), he thinks it was an acute bacterial infection (Clostridium) or that they got into something. Absolutely heartbreaking.

We're so very upset :(

Is it possible they got too much grain? That can cause bloat, or apparently if you house poultry with goats they can get sick
Sorry for your loss that is so sad

I am so sorry for your loss. Goats are such wonderful animals. I would say either infection or toxin. My money would be on toxin, but I am an MD and not a DVM. Clostridium can certainly be food borne, as it causes botulism. I would check your grain. Ergot is another possibility. They both died, and pretty rapidly - which really says toxin to me. Check the pasture for toxic plants as well.

Is everyone full up? I posted some Delawares on CL and even called a few people but no one wants them.

I'm sure there are at least four pullets out of seven. I'm not sure what the Blue EE is but even that one no one wants. They're nine weeks old and don't need heat but still no takers.

I'm leaving in a week or so and don't want to leave DD to take care of them.

I have other chicks she'll taking care off.
