Getting bored with Strawberry jamming. The strawberry pineapple is my favorite to make so far. 2 cps berries, 2 cups pineapple, lemon juice, sugar and pectin easy enough.

anyhow I'll be freezing 4 quarts. Spent to much on strawberries again, but then they'll go into smoothies. Thing is the freezer is full. I may have to buy another smaller one just for berries.

Tops has berries buy 2 get 3 free ...or something like that ...I passed because I dont need all those berries ...was tempting though ...

Finally settling back in. Mom began getting sick a week and a half ago, and a week ago was admitted to the hospital for a heart attack. Was at the hospital for a good week, while my hubby (also sick and in the ER once and urgent care once over the same period) tried to manage the birds and an active hatch.... Came home one day to a hatchery full of loose ducklings and a pheasant in the bookshelf, and lost a complex assisted hatch... He did a good job considering the circumstance! Fortunately, Mom is feeling better, almost everyone in the hatcher is now in the brooders, with the next lockdown scheduled for Thursday..
I am so very tired...

Hope you finally get some 'self' time - it's very important. Hope all is settling down.....

I have never tried Strawberry Rhubarb jelly/jam...but Strawberry Rhubarb pie is one of my favorite.

I have been sick for a few days. I think that I got it from the little girl that I watch on Fridays. Ugh bad head cold and now it is moving to my chest, but that is normal. It wreaks havick with my athsma. Hard to breath and this humid weather isn't making it any better. I really need a week of dry weather to dry things up around here. The ducks run is nothing but wet sloppy mud. We are planning on finally moving it to a new place this weekend.

Talking about ducks..Some eggs are hatching. I had 6 that I had shipped to me and all made it to lock down. So far 4 have hatched and one is working on it right now. The 6th doesn't look like it is moving so I'm not holding much hope for it.

I also have some under a broody. She started out with 7. Somehow she got down to 3. I candled them the other day and only 2 are still good. Hopefully she gets them all the way..I may just pull them and give her one of these new babies to keep her happy.

We also got most all of the material to make a Hoop coop for the turkeys and I managed to sneak by DH enough extra wood and an extra panel to make a single one for more space for the chickens.

Lady Hawke and luv...get some rest and feel better. Try drinking a cup of hot water with half a lemon squeezed in it several times a day. I find it helps a lot when you are feeling tired and poorly. Peppermint is good for breathing issues and asthma, as well as stomach aches.

Did a float test on the eggs under the broodies yesterday. All quitters. One had a slight odor. I didon't open any, just ditched them. Everyone went out today so I think the broody silkies are done. Those 3 chicks now have 4 moms to deal with! Eowyn, however, remains the lead mom as she hatched them out and is the top hen. Legolas just wants his women back to normal again! Lol

Master Timothy came over yesterday to share his cheerios with the terrorists. He loves the Duke and desparatly wants him to eat what he brings over. He waves to him and says hi daddy rooster and talks to him. Duke is very good about Tim being around his girls and him. I trust that rooster 100 percent as he has shown himself worthy of that trust. That being said, I always keep a close eye on all of them when time is visiting because things can happen. The girls can be pushy sometimes. At 3, this kid knows my chickens almost as well as I do. If any come up missing, my first phone call will bee to his mother!

Rancher...thanks for the book recommendations. I'm always looking for good preserving books. I have to do something with my strawberries today. Might as well make jam.

Beercan...how hard is it to grow rhubarb? I want to grow some for eating and canning. My mother always had some and she would cook it down and we would eat it.

Finished two sets of hats, booties and blankets for baby gifts. Have another pair of booties to do today then the cat in the hat stuff for another baby. Have to get some yarn for that. Then it's bac to my nephews afghan.

@pharmchickrnmom Very easy to grow. Doesn't require any care. Weeds are drowned out by the big leaves. Ours was here when we moved here, I haven't done anything to it but pick it and mow it down once a yr. I think it lives forever, my dad has the same patch since I was a little kid.
Every so many yrs it will benefit from being dug up, broke up and some transplanted if you want more. It can get overgrown, mine is right now and needs to be thinned out.

I've seen cheaper berries than farm markets prices but they're the large ugly kind. Not much flavor. Wegmans had berries for $2.99 a pound but they were past their prime. The most I've paid is $5 a quart cuz I was making jam and didn't have enough. Aldi will have them cheaper too.

You don't have a freezer? If I don't have time I just freeze them. I'm doing Red Currant/Raspberry jelly today. Jelly are a pain since they have to drain over night. Currants and Gooseberries don't make good jams. They have bigger seeds. Not good.

This reminds me I have to check the eggs under the Del hen. She broke a couple but I just left her. She has four. I've got broodies everywhere and it's frustrating.

My Rhubarb went to seed while I was gone and I'm worried it's to wet. Even in the raised beds. I cut the flower stalks off of course. Please Lord no more rain for a while. Send it to California, even though there are some in the state who don't deserve it. Amen.

Been working on square from Swaps long ago. Have a few more to trim and then sew them together.

There is just so much to do.

I hear you! I tried to get some rhubarb going here and it never took off. I am going to have to try again, since I'd really like to have some growing!
