NY chicken lover!!!!

Pyxis - do you remember the breeder of Trouble ? and did you see my questions on blue eyes ?

How dark was the egg he popped out from ? Just wondering if he is my Marans roo or my mixed flock roo for now :)

I picked them up from a local farm in Oneida. I don't know what she has left. She was a very nice older lady. I can't remember the name off the top of my head. I can look her up  and let you know if you want. I can't remember where you are, so not sure how close to Oneida you are?

Oneida is a drive, but we were just there in May first time we ever been to Turning Stone. Then we were sent a free two night stay in their Tower hotel, we escaped away from the kids for one night in July.
I wouldn't want any till spring. I would love to be able to find some true white hollands, just don't want to have to spend $250+ to get into the breed.

Yep! Breeder is @ladycat. I'm sure she could tell you about the eyes. He hatched from a fairly dark egg, I think.

Poor Lacie goose, I felt so bad for her yesterday. Those of you who have geese know that their body language is very clear and they do a lot of their communicating through body language that other bird species just don't understand. Yesterday I briefly let my broody who has the cemani culls out of their enclosure so I could clean everything. She doesn't take them out of the coop and after I just herd her back in after so it works well.

Well, Lacie loves baby chicks. She came into the coop and was talking to them with her happy voice, displaying all kinds of friendly body language - she just wanted to see the babies. They were afraid of her - after all she is a huge white bird that they don't really know - so they were running from her a little bit while she was trying to be nice. Then suddenly the broody turned around, kicked her in the chest, grabbed her head and ripped out a huge chunk of feathers. Poor Lacie started making her distress call and ran out of there as fast as she could.

Then later while I was just finishing up the cleaning, broody number one took her chicks too close to another broody's nest and a huge fight broke out. Lacie raced into the coop and put herself between the fighting broodies and the chicks who were hiding in the corner and hissed and hissed and protected the babies until I could break the fight up, at which point I put momma and her chicks back into their enclosure.

I really hope Lacie likes the juvenile geese I'm picking up tomorrow because she really needs some friends.

I think people ended up disappointed that because a bunch of outside people came and didn't bring auction donations or food (she said that some did, but I think most didn't, and some BYC people didn't either) everything was spread a little thin and it was really hard to find your BYC friends. It was still fun, though. She has been really busy lately and there were large stretches of time that she wasn't on leading up to the May one too so I bet she's still planning to have it and has just been too busy to check in.
Well having given it some thought, she should be understanding. We would have brought food and what not and then find out that we're feeding a bunch of essentially strangers? I would not have been happy about that. Especially what? 200 people. Thats not fair. Last one we went to we sprung for the burgers and we were happy to. I think we bought the 10# box at Maines for $37. or so.

Too I don't or didn't recall being told it being a donation thing either. I really didn't get that much info since I wasn't going to attend. Mostly I was concerned with sending something to support the picnic and help pay for that porta potty.

I belong to a church and we donate here. I'm sure I'm not out of line in saying some don't have it to give and are living paycheck to paycheck. I know when our kids were little it was not easy.

So what's my real point? Folks have to be told what's what. Some were expecting one thing and found another.

So if she's having it and we now know what to expect we can handle it. The apron stuff I posted were for the auction, we don't intend to be selling anything. If someone specifically pms me with an apron request that's fine too. Nor buy for that matter. Well we will buy food of course now that we know it's going to be for sale. Money is just too tight for us right now. If anyone has advice as to what they think will garner ticket sales for the auction feel free to let me know. So far it's just the aprons and some home made jam/jelly. We just want to show our support for our friend.

Of course if this is not a BYC meet and instead a commercial venture then folks should know ahead of time. I do know that there is a farm down Jamesville way that has a harvest day of some sort. DW and I took the GD to it a couple of years ago.

Love ya and hope to meet you,

Rancher

awe poor Lacy.:( she just wanted to see the babies. Then protect the babies. I sure do hope that she likes the goslings as well. I know she's been alone for awhile.
Keep us posted Pyxis, won't you?

Rancher, I agree entirely. It was totally not what I was expecting, having been to the one at Tab's before, and I was glad that I brought my own soda to drink because I wouldn't have been happy to have to buy it there at a dollar a can. I think other people felt the same way, and then with a bunch of people buying tickets to the auction who hadn't brought anything, the chances of winning for those who did went way down. I think the person who got my eggs was a person who wasn't from BYC. I would love to meet you at the September Chickenstock, but I can only afford to do the trip and hotel room once a year so I won't be going again until next year.

Bakerz, I'll keep you updated! I really hope she gets along with them, but if not I'm getting two so that way I don't end up with two lonely geese instead of one!

I was new to the ChickenStock this spring. I brought a 15#box of burgers and 10# frankfurters. I didn't mind this ...but none of it was used. We took home thawed meats we couldn't use quickly enough so ended giving it away to my adult children. Either way it was used. I surely would have been angered had they gone to feed non-BYC'ers to promote a business.only because I wasn't aware that, that was going on.
I kept asking everyone are you BYC??? And a lot of people just said "huh?" I did finally got frustrated and sat down near Metella and Pyxis's table because they had invited me to come sit with them as I didn't know anyone. ( such nice girls):).
I went home with 4 chicks and I was a happy camper. Of course 3 of 4 were sold as pullets & 2 of those turned into Roos.
Pyxis, I think your cull is a little lady !!! & we love her!!! My husband named her "Widget" and she follows him around (but I think that's cause whenever he finds a juicy beetle, he hides it in his pocket ,he brings it to her...he thinks I don't know) I keep trying to get a pic of her but she never stands still. I have blurry shots of her running to and fro and 1 clear shot of her fuzzy, feathered behind, that's it. Her besties is my Australorpe "Margaret" and Marans X "Omlette". I think she is very happy!

Glad she's doing well! Yes, they do not sit still for pictures. Getting good pictures of them is like pulling teeth, I swear. I'm happy to hear she's nice and friendly. People keep telling me their cemanis are skittish and unfriendly. I keep telling them they're not raising them right, lol! Here's the best picture I've been able to get of my GFF pullets so far.

I'm looking for a few hatching eggs for my broody hen. I live about fifteen minutes north of Cooperstown. I just don't have the time to drive a long way at the moment, so I was hoping to find someone fairly close. This hen likes to raise chicks so I'd like her to have a couple of eggs to hatch. I don't have a rooster at the moment and might be interested in one too. Thanks in advance.
