NY chicken lover!!!!

Newbie from Rochester, NY! Hello to all my New Yorkers! Any others from Rochester?

No chicks yet, just starting the process....have a zoning board meeting in the beginning of Oct for Hubby and I to apply for our special use permit to have hens. Once that is completed....full steam ahead!

So much great insight and info on here, everyone is so knowledgeable and friendly!

No I saw it ...I was hoping... still... it was a hen ...

with only 6 pullets & 12 cockerels

There might be more pullets in the black & white ones but they still all look like cockerels to me

Welcome ! Im in Jordan ..Sounds like a good plan ..may you have many chickens...

Yes, they are allowed in our town however if you wish to have them there is this process of getting the permit to go through....no set number, the woman in the zoning dept made it seem it was a case by case basis determined by size of yard, neighborhood or neighbors. Luckily we have no neighbors behind us and back to a park and trail. our immediate neighbors whom we've spoken to are all ok/excited about it! Regardless of the number, we are going to start with 6 and increase over the years to keep 10-12, I know our neighbors will not blow us in....unless they move and the new ones are not as ok with it. : )

Hope you start feeling better soon - toothache is miserable

Mine girls have been on/off molting for a while now, not sure why. I have them on 'feather fixer' for extra protein, they are still laying thankfully. Seems like this year is going to be a 'soft' molt

Been trying to get some FF but TSC is out. I've got two $2 off coupons I'd like to use. Poor Big Delores looks worse than I've ever seen her. I've never had a molt this bad on a bird. I think because I usually feed "Egg Producer" with 21 % protein. I've been feeding a 16% feed of and on.

FYI Runnings has feed on sale $11.75. I just got three bags. Sold 12 dozen eggs today. Not as much as I'd like but at least I sold them.

Be sure to get a copy of "City Chicks" by P. Forman. Lots of good ammo in there for changing the boards mind. I can't understand why they think dogs and cats are so much better. They get a dog complaint they don't ban dogs do they?

Akaruby...are you sure those silkies are boys?? Am I missing something? Silkies are good at hiding their sexl and the bottom pic doesn't look boy to me. Top pic could go either way.

Went to the dutchess county fair yesterday. No poultry, just pics. Watched the kids show their Holstein calves, saw all the critters, watched the dog agility and dog dock jump, ate fried dough, had a milkshake and a pulled pork on a burger with melted cheddar on top. Thank goodness my daughter split all of it with me. Bought some apple jack and watched the draft horse pull. That was cppl. Winner was a pair of Belgium that pulled 9800 pounds. It was a perfect day for the fair and we had fun.

Work keeps me busy but I do pop in to see what's up. Bedtime now. Working tomorrow.
