NY chicken lover!!!!

Went out this morning with my camera..My Swedish Flower Hen it just too funny! The minute I come out she is at my feet and acts like she wants to get picked up. She loves to sit on my arm. The kids said I should have named her "Parrot" instead of "Sasha". When I was waiting for the kids to get off the bus she must of heard me because she came running from around the house. Picked her up and she got on my arm..Then proceeded to climb her way up so that she was siting on my shoulder till the bus came. She sat there for at least 15 minutes or more... Silly Chicken!!
What a beautiful SFH. I have never seen such a large and beautiful crest on one before. I had a shoulder chicken that was an ameraucana. Unfortunate a hawk got her one morning. I was so sad. SFH is on my list. I was planing to drive to PA to get some hatching eggs just not sure when. I want to get the 3 breeds I have coming under way first. Hoping for another shoulder chicken.

Good morning!! So much to read and now, so much to say.
On waterers... I have a bell jar, not nips, but I elevated mine and then placed a grated step under it. Now I will get a boot pan and fill it with sand to go under the waterer. I hope that works with keeping things drier.
On the lavender roo... I would LOVE to have him... but all of my chicks are only two weeks old. But when you mate him to your other lavender... please put me as number one for chicks!!
Finally, well not finally since I always have something to say... my chicks are getting so big. Still can't upload pictures tho :/ my Abigail, who I think is partridge rocks, is flying up and sitting on the edge of the brooder, but when I come in she sidles around to me and wants loving... my two black chicks are the most skittish nervous things I've ever seen... I don't like that.
Ugh... gotta chase the toddler who just went upstairs... have a great day all

@DeansMill are you using a phone or tablet for pics? Try editing, just crop to the same size, edited pics always post for me, for some reason regular pics won't take ???

I'll definitely keep everyone updated how the breeding goes. I'm a total newbie. He's a gorgeous guy!

I don't have any experience with chicken nipples yet, hoping to this winter. But I would guess not enough pressure or water weight, they shouldn't leak. If I remember right you have the long line of nipples and not a bucket? Maybe try putting your reservoir up higher to create more pressure on the nipples ?

I have nipple waterers I made from buckets and they do tend to drip. I have a piece of wood underneath mine that helps a bit with all the dripping. I plan to use an aquarium water heater(I think that's what they are) I saw for the buckets this winter.

I hope our cockerels turn out to be gentlemen with the ladies. I agree - lavender is a beautiful color.

I have some and they shouldn't drip but can. I keep my water in the run NOT in the coop. Since they're let out each day even in the winter they should be fine till I get out there. I have heaters for the winter. Even so they need a wind block or they will freeze. I reckon you could wrap them in fleece or some other form of insulation.

Sorry read the poster wrong.
Rancher: Jacob sheep are cool looking nice old world breed, you could make winning case to get a pair. Dairy animal even if I pay two dollars a day board ( which what my hay dealer gets for boarding) still ahead on cost of milk / cheese. Not to mention the health benefits.

It would mean learning about them and building a shed and planting pasture. We have the land and I could get someone to cut the trees down for free. I'm all for preserving the old breeds. Too I wonder in finding someone who is willing to carry the torch when the time comes, since I'm not a young man.

Perhaps we can talk at the next chickenstock in the spring. Not sure anyone is hosting.
