Well, my replacement chicks arrived today, one day late this time, and they were all dead. Not even a chance to try to revive any of them, they were all past that point.

There is no way this should have happened. They were in transit less time, the seller again included two heat packs and Gro-Gel, and still they arrived dead. The post office has to have mishandled the package - left them sitting out in the cold or something. These poor chicks. I'm not going to ask for more replacement chicks, it's the clear the post office is for some reason unable to get them to me alive.

That is awful! Hugs Pyxis. There has to be a better service. I know I'd pay more for a specialized delivery service for live animals.

DH is on his way to look at a tractor. I'm excited that we might be able to get some bigger outside projects done before winter. It was beginning to look like my garden was going to wait another year. Crossing fingers.
I have to process 6 cockerels today. Boo.
It looks like I'll have at least 3 - possibly 5 - of my 7 baby chicks that will be cockerels that require processing in February. I'm already tired of the ratios I'm getting.
On a brighter note, building a recycled incubator has been fun. If it works out I'll try to hatch some chicks in February.

This has me furious!!! I would put the USPS on blast!!! If a woman who can't afford to properly care for her animals gets them seized and tickets for abuse, then the blatant disregard for life by the P.O.should be addressed as well. There are FAR too many stories like this, which was a reason I waited over a year to finally place an order and wait anxiously. I think the ASPCA should be involved. Just don't let PETA know.

I am so sorry. There is no way the USPS should be allowed to accept chicks if they can't deliver them safely.

I've never shipped chicks because I couldn't ship them on hatch day. Chicks have to be shipped on hatch day since they can go a couple of days without eating. Anytime after that and they'll starve.

I lost chicks once in the brooder because the waterer got tipped over and I didn't check them soon enough. Now I put two waterers in the brooder, two heat lights just to be safe.

I expect the chicks I ordered once weren't newborns but a day or more old.

You have my deepest sympathy @Pyxis . I have never ordered chicks but bought local and when we bought our first 10 one of them didn't even make it out of the parking lot before it was gone. They did exchange it . Where did you order from?

I'm so sorry Pyxis... poor little babies. Maybe they should be shipped FedEx or UPS instead and be overnighted. I certainly would not trust the USPS again.
This certainly frightens me...as I wanted to order chicks next spring. Gah now I don't know.
