I suppose you could put some shrubs around them for a wind break but if the birds are happy that should do it. I would keep the max you can in them though. Just make sure there are no drafts. Put lots of shavings on the floor.

I hung a big thermometer on the wall so I could monitor the temps. I reckon you could put a heat light on a thermostat plug to come on if things got to cold. I'm not sure where you'd get one but they are out there. Maybe set it for just above freezing.

Lisa...from what I can see of your coops, your silkies should be just fine. Ventilation is key. Keeping the coop dry and ventilated will keep them warm. Mine have a smaller coop and I just change out the litter if needed.

Morning all. Last day of my oldest daughters visit from ga. She and her boyfriend and dog made the quick trip up. Their dog, kena, is the sweetest girl. She did try to grab one of my rir hens but was unsuccessful. Been good since then though. Putting up Christmas decorations today. Both my eldest and middle daughters will be helping. The baby will be home later in december.

I was looking at the girls in Legolas coop and am keeping my fingers crossed that the one might be a boy. Of course I won't know for sure until it crows or lays an egg. For once I am hoping for a rooster! Silkies are out enjoying free ranging since I'm home today. I feel guilty locking them up all the time while at work. My reds are well. Going to get another line in the spring. Always working on improvement.

Well she is doing okay for the most part. She gets cramps in her legs and is going to PT for her back and hips. Tired a lot too. Thanks for asking.

DW had sections for all ours. Four total. She came home the next day, cooked dinner, cleaned up the house, Washed clothes in our old wringer washer, folded the laundry and all that. Fact is she didn't even go back to the doctor to have her staples out, she just got my snippers and did it herself. She did of course sterilize everything with alcohol, including herself, inside and out. She did have a little help from Jack.................. Jack Daniels. She did everything just like in the old days. Ah the memories. Makes me want to buy her a new pair of boots for Christmas.

She ain't aged a day since I married her.

Anyhow you just strap that baby to your back, saddle up the mule and make the trip. Remember the way to a friends house is never long.

We worry too much ...they have feathers to keep warm ..
if you think they are cold put your finger in between their feathers ..you will see they are fine
