Thanks. I couldn't bring myself to say no to him, even though my mind was racing with thoughts about how we were going to care for it. It's the first animal he's brought home, other than the pocketful of roly polys he brought in from the backyard last year, claiming they were his new friends. Those went out faster than they came in!

Welcome! He is a nice looking rooster. Not sure if you are aware that the meat breeds don't live very long. I hear the do much better if you ration their food. Also thy can not reproduce.

Yeah, cornishx meat chickens do not live long, after 12 weeks they usually can't even walk, look like they are dying. I've heard occasionally a pullet will live long enough to lay eggs.
Restricting feed when they are young helps get them to mature, well not mature but butchering size with less health problems associated to their rapid growth.

Horse don't digest all the grain that they eat so the chickens are just eating what bits were left over.


I'm getting back a big Slash Orpington rooster that you could have. I hatched out 4 and 3 were roosters. They are all HUGE The 2 that I have right now are about the same size of my turkey hens.

Ive gotten quite a few offers which i appreciate. Im thimling one already grown , good personality but will boss those rir and barred rocks around

YES IT Is ! Me too... I am taking advantage of it ..Yesterday I cleaned out all the litter in the coop....
It was partial decomposed...smells like dirt ...Going to be great for the garden

Yep, going out ASAP to clean the roosters' coop & I'll be all set cleaning them.
Picked the Brussels Sprouts & the leftover plants going to the chickens. Plus, the rabbit loves eating the tough stalks.

I'm still pulling good fresh carrots out of the garden. Where I've cut down the kale it's growing back. I like this better than last winter.

Nice! I just got done cleanig off the droppings boards. The bedding is ok, I just replaced it a couple days ago. All while still walking on my broken ankle. I refuse to wear the boot they gave me because I've had two knee surgeries and it pulls on my knee. So I'm walking on this ankle lol! I still take care of the ladies and gentlemen chickens though!

this thread have Silkies.

We received Silkies as a gift. And we love them.
