NY chicken lover!!!!

Oh dear. I'll have to keep an eye on them and move them onto it every now and then. If they don't get used to it, it's ten minutes to my favorite hardware store.

Was it you that said you really wanted to get a premier1 heat plate for Christmas on an earlier post??

If so, congratulations! You must have been good this year!

Yes it was!

For your heating pad you'll actually want it over them - arch it up so they can walk under it and press against it like they would a hen to get warm.

If they are in the house ...they would be fine with a 60- 100 watt bulb on top of the bin pointing down

Dont Buy grit they dont need it ...if you are giving them starter that is perfect for them ..
apple cider vinegar - they say Braggs with mother is the best - can be expensive .
I have used both ...reg APC from the store that works too . You can also Add the Braggs to the reg kind ..
just a little bit in the water ...that should regulate him some

I actually have two pads. I originally bought them for my rabbits, but I suppose they'll be ok snuggling up to each other outside for warmth. Especially with the way this winter has been going so far. I can't believe I still have geraniums and marigolds blooming! So I'll try to rig up something with the two pads. Maybe put one flat and the other at an angle to it, almost like a sloping roof, so they can huddle into the angle. The pad is supposed to get to 110 degrees, so should I line them with a towel so the chicks don't get too hot against it?

Gramma, I was only gonna get the grit because the seller already started giving them grit, and if I want to try and give them mealworms or veggies, won't they need some? And should I give the chicks apc in their water also?

Wow, lot's of posts.
I hear you on the nest box build Pyxis. Our 3yr old boy likes to play with my tools, hard keeping track of him and tools. Couldn't find my good tape measure when I moved coop and run. Though it would work out perfect, leave the upper stakes, move lower stakes 14' above, pull the fence over without removing bird netting....Easier said than done, getting it square so the netting covered good was a pain, and I found the tape measure in 12yr old's bedroom two weeks later.
I have to get my butt in gear building nest boxes on the small coop, I didn't think they would start laying yet, found a egg in that coop this morning.
