NY chicken lover!!!!

Finally found some decent screws after digging around in my hardware cupboard for half an hour - not my decking screws, those are truly gone apparently, but they'll work. Now I'm off to finish the nesting boxes. Hopefully my POL pullets will make use of them if they finally start laying! Also gonna see if I can get the roost I took down yesterday relocated so the birds will actually use it.

I'm also excited because BYC chose me for the newest member interview! They just put it up in the Family Life section. I'm really honored that they chose me for an interview.
love the interview. Are you going to study avian medicine as well? Would be great to have a chicken vet on call.

So I'm up. I got real sick after my last return. Saw doc and got a breathing treatment which is a first. Usually it's just Rxs and call me in tend days. It's been tough bouncing back. Doc says stay away from the chickens and cold. Yeah right. Who else will go out to feed and water and collect eggs. Which btw I have bowls full waiting to be washed. I'm getting more than a dozen a day. Girls must be happy.

DW is coughing but not likely to go out.

This bout was worse than times past and I'm concerned. Three days on Antis and I'm still not where I want to be.

Anyhow it looks like I'm nearing the end of my chicken keeping days. I hurt so bad this last time and not bouncing back as quick I'm worried next time might be too much.

I wear a mask out now and it was so hard pulling my hot water jugs out I'm not sure I make another winter.

I'm going to have to fight DW to start cleaning things out and unloading things we don't need.

I'm sure I won't be hatching anymore. If anyone might be interested in my Genesis 1588 and turner let me know. It has a new fan/heater in it. used twice.

I've got two heated dog bowls never used too. Dusty but should be okay.

Warm out this am, which was nice. I'd dragged out hot water but was glad to see I didn't need it.

Welcome newbies and I hope everyone is well. Hope you all had a nice holiday too.

Cold or not I've got to take a short walk or I'll go crazier. DW controls the TV and even with cable it sucks.

I am very sorry to hear your out of sorts. I hope good helth catches you quickly. This weather has caused all sorts of bad things.

PM me with details as to the incubator and turner. I will need one by late March and would be very happy with preowned as a first. Also keep me in mind when your ready to rehome your flock.

Rancher- hope you start feeling better soon. I know sometimes it takes a few tries to get an antibiotic that works :/

Found out I have to get my tonsils out and I'm not looking forward to it...DH will have to take on the chicken responsibilities for a bit after that.

Ok - where is the family life section - I can't find it!

So sorry to hear about your ill health, rancher. I hope you get well soon. And I'm sorry you may have to give up your chickens soon. Best wishes

Thanks! Yes, it would like to specialize in avian medicine, when I get that far :)

Ok - where is the family life section - I can't find it!

Here it is! Well, my interview, anyway :) The Family Life section itself is under Social in the forums menu.

Introducing myself:)
We live in Garrison New York on the east side of the Hudson Valley. I have had chickens off and on since I was 12 and saved all the money I could for a $36 money order for an assorted batch of Murray McMurray assorted bantams. Now I'm a mom and the hub got me a fancy Brinsea incubator after I successfully hatched some ducks and chicks in my 20+ year old hova-bator.
Currently I have no chickens but I do have some silkies and silver appenzeller spitzhauben eggs going on day 5 today incubation!

Welcome, sugar stark!

That's a good price for your chicks! I have one Dominique and she is very quiet, likes cuddles (sometimes) she was a regular layer until she hit 4 yrs, now nothing.   Oh well, such is life.
Starter food is a bit more expensive but don't be tempted to cut corners with their feed. There is a precise science that goes into creating the 'perfect' blend. Your boy is going to think he died and went to heaven with 5 wives! :)

Lol boskelli. But he's gonna have to wait a while for the wives to become of age!

I'll give them feed mix at least twice a day, and the other stuff ( kitchen scraps, ets) once a day. When they're old enough.
