NY chicken lover!!!!

I heard somewhere that cracked corn has little nutritional value compared to whole kernel corn. Have you guys heard anything like that?

I have a pretty water system with 7 gallons of water and 10 nipples for 15 birds. All of the nipples are frozen. I'm going to try better insulation but have a heated water bowl that will work if needed. I've lugged water today and will do so again in the morning. The water in the tub is only frozen at the top, and the pvc is thawed, but the metal nipples are frozen. I knew this was a risk. I read the reviews. I had no idea how cold the inside of the coop could get because this is my first winter using the space. Now that I know I will have a few warmer days to improve what I have and I'll reconsider the whole shebang in spring.

My question: I have two windows and a door that have partial sections with hardware cloth for ventilation. Should I close off one two or all of them? If I do, should I make it openable on a daily basis? I'll probably move the water system outside in spring. How many hours a day do they need access to water?

So the extra FF left in the bucket doesn't spoil? Since you're not using it all out, and just adding to it?
It wont spoil. It's the healthy bacteria causing it to ferment that keep it from going bad. Sometimes, especially in the heat of the summer, it will get a layer of weirdness on top, or smell really funky, but the chickens love it. And they are so healthy!

! Really, rancher? I haven't seen the last few episodes, but what is NCIS with Tony? And his movie remarks. Oh, well, at least it's not Gibbs. There can definitely not be NCIS without Gibbs!

Ok, I will definitely start a batch tomorrow. Since I don't need much right now, I can start the three jar system. One with starter for the chicks and one with grower for Chick. I need to go get some acv
