NY chicken lover!!!!

Hmm, very tempting. I would like to get bees someday soon but know little about keeping them. I have a big garden and lots of fruit trees that would benefit, and we love honey...
I could use a trip to Gary's u pull it anyway.

Not sure if Hubby will go or not, since we are reaching our 1 year anniversary of this endeavor. My mom got him a new hive for Christmas through TSC. So now he is planning where to buy more bees from for his birthday in March (although they wouldn't be delivered/picked up till warm spring weather). We knew very little, best resources were Beekeeping for Dummies book, online classes with Brushy Mountain (you get a coupon code to the store when complete) and attending the bee meetings and conferences.

I know you are a beer connoisseur, we are learning that hops have beneficial compounds for deterring one of the bee pests.

BAs are a good over all breed ...all chickens will do some pecking when introduced to other chickens .
that is how they establish their pecking order / chicken hierarchy
I think BA's are a nice addition to a coop and I wish they came in more colors.

Aussies do come in different colors ...but not from most hatcherys ..
some Breeders have white , blue & splash

Ohhhhh... I would definitely like some of these splashy girls.
I knew/read they had other colors but I didn't realize they had them in the USA.
Awe man don't tell me this it's bad, very bad. Chicken Math is a horrible affliction.
I actually got teary eyed on Christmas morning after opening gifts. The ONLY thing I asked for from my husband was an incubator... I gave him the make, model number, cost and where he could order, or walk in and buy it. You guessed it... Santa didn't bring it and neither did my husband.
In his defense he got me some lovely gifts including a beautiful white gold mothers ring,... but I wasn't wanting jewelry.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:
All 4 babies have hatched. However mother will not allow us to get a good look at them, right now. Picks to follow when momma allows us to take them.:/
After Pyxis's advice and the circumstances of our situation...I guess that tomorrow we are building a broody pen. About 6ft. long with an 18" enclosed nesting box. We are putting it in the main coop area with wire cloth all around so the other birds can look but not touch, momma or the babies. Hopefully, this will be advantageous to the incorporation of the new additions later. All the birds seem to be very curious about all the peeping going on.
Do you think 6ft.x18" is a big enough space??? Any advice is welcome and encouraged. Please and thank you.

Hi all, im hanging in there. First day post op wasn't too bad but now it's starting to hit me. Doctor said day 4/5 can be the worst, hopefully I can keep up with my meds and it will be bearable. Especially since it's day 21 for my eggs tomorrow! I had won a MPC contest and got silkies, blue sex link EEs and super blue egg layer fertilized eggs. I hope it's a good hatch! Little chicks always put a smile on my face :)
Heal quick. And enjoy Popsicles & jello while u heal. Yep those cute little fuzzy butts make everything feel better!! Fingers crossed lots of them hatch!!

@akaruby praying for your recovery

On the home front, everything is going well. More pullets are laying & One of the turkey hens laid 4 eggs this past week!

400

Sat am is lockdown for my first winter hatch! Told myself I wouldn't hatch in the winter, but those hatchery pullets I ordered weren't anything I wanted to grow out for 3 more months, so sold 10 of them the other day. Still have 6 too many b/c even tho they're supposed to be layers, they're eating like the "slower growing" meat hybrids. But the person I ordered them for still wants pullets, so that meant a winter hatch!

The 2nd young turkey jake & 4 drakes are going to freezer camp Sat, and I'll be learning how to scald/ pluck since I've only skinned before.
Good night!
