I'm very fortunate. I'm very mechanically inclined and I married a auto mechanic. We are true penny pinchers. If we can fix it we will. Sadly the neighbors have all figured that out. When they need something fixed they call us.

My big Buff Laced Brahma is getting picked on. He's missing feathers now. I'm going to put up a Craigslist listing to see if anyone is interested. He needs to be an only boy. He's so nice to the ladies but the othe two cockerels are not happy with the nice guy. :-(

Is it possible that I might have 2 separate breeds of red feathered chickens or just 2 separate blood lines of the same breed? I have 8 reds 4 have small combs like my BA girls and 4 have big floppy combs like my WL . I will get pictures in a bit.

Pictures will be best bet. What were they purchased as? If it was the red pullet bin at TSC, the poster does say it could be a variety of red feathered breeds, like sex links or RIR.

The one in the first pic is hubby's. Her name is Blondie since her breast feathers are lighter than the others. She is obsessed with him.

I think like anything else its a question of need. I learned along time ago to change a tire, oil, filters, etc. only because I had to. and because when I was younger I hung out with a group of guys that did the classic car thing. I owned a 1967 Camaro RS/SS, a 1972 Chevelle SS and the beaters I drove though the winters. I use to drag race at ESTA Dragstrip in Cicero NY and have gone as far away as Reading PA for racing.
I loved my classic cars but alas they were sold when I got pregnant and needed a house to raise my kids. I now have a 2003 Mustang only because at the time they weren't making Camaros and even now Mustang is one of the only rear wheel drive cars left.

Do I now want to change my oil? no, definitely NOT. a filter? maybe, the battery? okay. But now I have the funding to pay someone else to do it while I shop. I can't be bothered to get all grungy dirty.

Although, if I gotta go??? I gotta go. I will "Pop a Squat" where ever I need to. Luckily I know what "weeds" to use to wipe if need be and which to definitely avoid.

I hope everyone is feeling okay and recovering from their surgeries.

My husband is doing as well as can be expected although we are having a hard time controlling the pain in his thorasic and lumbar.This cervical surgery was in preparation of his much needed lumbar surgery next year. I have to say at this point my husband has very little pain in his cervical region and is very happy with his surgeon Dr. Nicholas Qandah in Utica NY. The scar on my husbands neck is even in good shape. The doctor was very concientious in scar placement as he put it perfectly within the natural wrinkle on my husbands neck.

Midget and the 2 remaining chicks are doing awesome. Midget is an awesome Momma, protecting and teaching the little ones. The babies are happy, healthy and full of vigor. My husband built a Broody house prior to surgery and it is working out great although I am having difficulty keeping the water in a liquid state within the broody coop. The new heated waterer, we got at TSC, for the rest of the chickens is great and works well.
